This article makes me think of a similar Canada-US dynamic. It's great that Canadians are marching against police violence and systemic racism, but only after the Americans started.
Ever think part of the problem here could be focusing on and reinforcing focus on division by color of skin, hmmmm? Is there really a "white vs. black" clear divide anymore? Isn't some of the purity testing just reinforcing what stupid cops do in their profiling? Who the fuck are "white people" anyways?
Many people have multiple ethnicities. My son is Native Alaskan, I worry for him. Just because someone is white does not mean their children, mothers and fathers are white too!
Black activists wonder: Is protesting just trendy for white people?https://t.co/aB0fClH3IF
Here's one way the problem could be solved. Everyone who has a slave ancestor gets papers proving that and they get special protest privileges. That would mean Latinos without slave ancestors that get targeted by police would have to start their own movement. As far as people of "indigenous" ancestry railing on police representing and reinforcing what the conquistadores did half a millenia ago, I got nothing, no ideas, sorry.

and inspired bythe illustration for the NYT article, I got a question for Kamala Harris: which side are you on, babe, which side are you really on?

yeah and the whole caste system is sickeningly intertwined with skin color as a major signifier.
