new "slam dunk" study about aerosol transmission on cruise ship:
AEROSOL—Computer model of the Diamond Princess cruise utbreak found that the virus spread most readily in microscopic droplets light enough to linger in the air—it was aerosol. This is now slam dunk for the coronavirus aerosol transmission. #covid19https://t.co/drsq0BzMcG
I'm totally skeptical. The guys preparing food were getting it worst, and were a ready made conduit for transporting the virus via meals. I suspect if this aerosol transmission was so effective, we'd have 1 billion infected by now - how many walked out of Trump and religious events infected? Not that many. 1 month to infect only 1/5 the passengers and crew largely unawares? Not a very successful virus Transmission stratégy:
This internal Cabin (random Cruise ship/deck, not Diamond Princess) is about 9.5x17 feet. Bathroom to bathroom shared ventilation with adjacent cabin looks to be 1-2 feet - presumably short enough to carry water droplets as well, and quite different from an open restaurant A/C situation even if it Is "airborne". But i think they bill the paper as being quite speculative.
Over 1 month, 712 of 3711 passengers & crew (19%) became infected, which seems to me a pretty damn low infection rate for a claustrophobic setting considering what they're positing. Note that no testing was Done til the last 2 weeks, so Transmission had free rein. Also, a number of cases were traced to crew doing food preparation.
