Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital has started transferring patients to prepare for a two-day nurses strike set to begin at 7 a.m. Tuesday.

The nurses union slammed the hospital leadership for making contingency plans instead of working to reach a new contract with nurses.

"All hell is breaking loose at the hospital, and nurses have not even gone out on strike yet," said Kathy Santoiemma, New Rochelle leader of the New York State Nurses Association, in a statement.

The union said it began hearing Sunday night about changes at the hospital to prepare for a strike. Two patients were transferred and the emergency department stopped accepting patients, according to the NYSNA statement [....]
