This is pretty silly - we're going to draw conclusions about 49 *fewer* felonies out of 184 vs. 233 with ridership of 73mill vs 143million - for *one month*. There were as many assaults in 2020 as 2019 with 2/7 the ridership - maybe people were pissed off, or maybe Frank's gang just did 12 more assaults that month - 1 every 3 days - or maybe people were more likely to report the assaults. 36 vs 24 vs 24 - really huge numbers in New York?
2/3 the larcenies in 2021 vs 2019 with 1/2 the ridership - or almost twice the larceies in 2021 vs 2020 with almost twice the ridership. What can we conclude?
Robbery at 52 vs 39 vs 60 in September - maybe people felt much poorer and desperate in Sept 2021 vs Sept 2019 - plus in 2021 it's still less than 2 per day in all the subway?
And in 1990 there were 19 felonies/million riders vs 1/2 or 1.2

Unless one wants to make up conspiracy theories about that to continue the narrative ad infinitum, of course. Slowly, though, most addicts will find a new case to follow!

that is strange; I think perhaps it has to have "the girl next door" thing to sell big time (big audience) as a mystery story--which would at this time in our pop culture not necessarily be white in skin color, but has to be a girl assimilated to the bigger middle class. And black culture,for one, is still seen as too separatist and unassimilated? Take it in reverse: few are interested if the story involves a "white trash" girl either.
