all the many stories along the lines of "5 shot, 1 killed" often there is one about the grieving over the lost one, but very few have follow-ups of what life is for the other 4. It ain't always pretty but we are going to ignore it until like 10 years down the road when the number of inner city handicapped become OVERWHELMING, far more men in nursing homes and/or disabled care than in prison:
welcome to the wonderful world of U.S. nursing homes, they ain't just for old people or even just inner city people, they are virtually all like this because any kind of regular health insurance stops paying after a while, you eventually go on Medicaid:

this is a really good piece about the straw purchaser of the handgun that the cop shooters in Chicago used, his arrest situation by ATF and prosecution by the Feds.It has good detail gives one a good sense of what really needs to be done to solving the problem of handguns in blue cities where they are already against the law:

I remembering reading a detailed article in the Bloomberg era in NYC where Bloomberg himself or someone from his foundation explained how attacking this problem is key to getting gun violence under control since reality means it is not going to be possible to outlaw handguns nationwide.
It's not just about gun show loopholes and all that. IT'S ABOUT THESE PEOPLE WHO SPECIALIZE IN MAKING STRAW PURCHASES for basically a little money on the side! These are not gang members or even involved in criminal activities themselves. They are just opportunists who take advantage of the situation of "bad guys" not being able to buy like a gun or a car themselves. All the "bad guys" get to know them, i.e., go see Lenny who works at the Chicken Shack, he'll get you a gun in Indiana.
Lenny basically stays legal, ya see? You have to go after these guys hard
It was the same thing with those two guys in the military a while back who were found to be furnishing guns to criminals in Chicago. They were just doing it for extra money.
It may look wrong at first to see hard time prosecution of these types, but accordiing to Bloomberg experts, it was key to getting gun violence down in NYC, you couldn't make any sort of dent in the the problem without having Feds crack down hard on these small time trafficking on the side guys. Especially in areas like Chicago or NY where crossing state lines to legal handgun sales is not that hard to do, just like a 90 mile trip and a guy can make himself some real bucks buying a handgun he resells to a felon. The straw purchasers are a big big part of the problem. They get caught after the fact when their name is found on the books as the legal purchaser where the gun was legal to own. For prevention you have to unfortunately catch them in the act of selling to a criminal before it's used criminally.

vs. a steady approx 1,000 a year deaths due to police across the entire nation and a majority of those are white (as per WaPo's database project.)
