Breaking News: A gunman killed at least two people and injured seven at a St. Louis high school. The gunman was killed, the police said. https://t.co/D87jhnU4Vs
looks like majority Black student population to me:
The gunman was fatally shot while exchanging gunfire with the police, authorities said.
[.....] The police responded just after 9 a.m. to reports that shots had been fired at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis Public Schools said.
“Police responded quite heavily and quite quickly,” the spokeswoman, Lori Willis, said. Photos published by local news outlets and shared online by people driving by showed dozens of police cars at the busy intersection in south St. Louis where the school sits. [....]
Crickets from the birthplace of the "abolish police" gang in nearby Ferguson I imagine, who would prefer a Uvalde type situation where someone shooting schoolkids is treated with kid gloves if not aided by social workers?
Rabid defunder Congressperson Cori Bush wants to "help"
Addressing students and faculty members at the news conference, Representative Cori Bush, Democrat of Missouri, said, “Our hearts go out to each and every one of you, but as we are thinking about how to help, we will also be here on the ground to help.”

OVER AND OVER: A 19-year-old former student brought a semiautomatic rifle and high-capacity magazines to a St. Louis school and murdered a teacher and a student.
The teen, who had no criminal history, could legally buy a long gun and ammo in Missouri. https://t.co/RbxOnjF16d
St. Louis gunman: Orlando Harris, Black, incel-type, angry recent graduate of the school:
Orlando Harris… But "I don’t have any friends; I don’t have any family. I’ve never had a girlfriend; I've never had a social life. I've been an isolated loner my entire life. This was the perfect storm for a mass shooter," Harris wrote in the note. pic.twitter.com/xZWEyOQHRb

St. Louis police are in impossible situation. Mother called 911 when she found the rifle 9 days before school shooting.

....At the time of his arrest on Friday, DePape, 42, maintained a subscription-model blog where he vented rage over Covid-19 precautions and espoused beliefs shared by the conspiracist QAnon movement. The page also includes dedicated sections for Holocaust denial, climate change denial, transphobia, racism, misogyny, voter fraud conspiracy theories, Second Amendment absolutism, screeds against groomers and “pedos,” and trashing actress Amber Heard, the ex-wife of Johnny Depp.
DePape posted similar hard-right and conspiratorial content on his Facebook page, which the platform deleted on Friday.....
I think: perhaps a bit too much emphasis on the politics of this when the reality is that it's gonna happen with non-political too. The Squeaky Fromme types will always be with us - that's why there's the Secret Service - it's just that so many more people are 'celebrities' these days, that role is no longer dependent on paparazzi alone. Dream of being a big-time YouTube influencer? Think again - better have dough for security, you never know when you''ll become part of someone's conspiracy theory narrative that goes viral itself.
he makes a good point about how rapidly this shit is politicized now before anyone really knows a lot of facts:
Everyone can probably just take a breath and do a crossword puzzle or something because this attack is going to be investigated by 100,000 FBI agents and we’re eventually going to find out all the details. No need to speculate over breadcrumbs in the early reports.
And I mean this goes for the left too. in the aftermath of the Gabby Gifford’s shooting everyone blamed Sarah Palin and then of course it turned out he was just a schizophrenic
it's a pretty disgusting trend in my book, it's like everyone is Jack Ruby now, rushing to kill "the enemy". Nuance is actually the real enemy of partisanship.
more - this guy's on a roll, ate his wheaties this morning:
Maybe you should all stop pretending like there is any chance is going to be a civil war in this country because there are lots of crazy people in this country who might take you literally
maybe just maybe all the constant fevered partisan rhetoric is what riles the crazies that are always wth us until the practice of psychiatry improves past the terrible low stage it is at. Qanon is more like a cult than a political movement, I am sure many of the online activities furnish welcome soothing sounds to those with a problem of hearing Son-of-Sam like voices....
meantime, quit riling them and maybe don't let then have guns? True, you can't keep them away from hammers, it's gonna happen some times, bad things happen to good people. For that we have "security", i.e. police.

tell me again how 'progressives" aren't like conservatives and don't try to gaslight people for political reasons:
"Nobody is really saying there's no crime crisis in America after the largest increase in violence in American history and one that disproportionately affects minorities."
MSNBC: Hold my beer. https://t.co/cIKwrXzK6u
MSNBC is paying Hayes Brown for this shit: don't believe your lying eyes, folks, your eyes are Republican. Thank god we still have politicians like Biden who doesn't buy a level of partisanship that requires gaslighting.
Learn something - he's actually sharing expertise learned over a lifetime, it's basically how good cops 'look'
"Near a subway stop" is a pretty useless is misguided detail in the story. It's Manhattan. Everything is "near a subway stop." And when a woman is attacked, it's rarely random. It's "unprovoked."https://t.co/bujFDNBQbb
Put another way, one can say it's random which blade of grass a golf ball will land on in a golf course. The lucky blade exclaims, "What were the odds! A one-in a million chance!" But the odds that the ball would land on a blade of grass were 100%.
Gets me thinking about the premise of every single 'Columbo' episode. He basically knows who the murderer is from the getgo, he just spends the whole show pestering him/her to uncover But nobody accuses Columbo of 'profiling', go figure.
So 2 blocks away from a metro at 6th & 21st is different than 4 blocks from 18th St metro and 3 blocks from 23rd street metro, so they can write a long column about the metro and its former leader, vs petty crime from vagrants walking around the city looking for a fight? Odd.
This reminds how a former frequenter of Dagblog suggested that traffic police should be replaced by 'robots or something' because he believed most of them harassed Black people for driving while Black. Well, here you go, it's possible and being used:

Rapper Takeoff from the group Migos was fatally shot in Houston on Tuesday, a representative told the Associated Press. He was 28. https://t.co/YzCpCjeECZ
Barrington, I’ve been a harsh critic of you, and your opinions. But you’re definitely on to something with this one. Takeoff’s death hit different and it’s time we have tough conversations in the Black community.
1. I recently watched this documentary from Vice about London’s problem w/ deaths of young black men by knives. It’s from 2018 so I’m sure the problem is even worse now. Not a fan of Vice for some dishonesty I’ve seen like most media but this documentary is well done.
2. Communities demonstrated against gang violence unlike US. A father was very honest when he stated there are 2 kinds of blacks & that it wasn’t the police killing blacks. Hard to watch the senseless killing of teens. https://t.co/hQi99FrN5c
Its sad.Politicians in the cities make it off limits to call out black on black crime . In doing that they perpetuate more black men dying and going to prison. Theyve been ignoring it for decades. We call it out and we're called racists when truth is we care more than they do.
....Sheriff’s Lt. Patty Thomas said she didn’t know what started the fight. The suspect opened fire at party-goers and then left, according to a sheriff’s statement....

I think the NYPD has made a dent in the violent crime stats by going hard after confiscating weapons and focusing manpower on the worst areas using compustat (including taking officers off of desk duty, as I heard on the radio last night)
Behooves to remind that guns were not exactly easy to get in the past, so going hard after them and making it known they are doing so makes a dent. So they were not starting from a point like in other places where everyone has long had 2.5 guns in their house.
And they are still falling down on subway crime, that is still going up.
