A trio of bad Samaritans slashed a man in front of his family on an East Harlem subway platform — all because they mistakenly believed he was harassing his wife, the victim’s family said.
Luis Sanchez, 31, had been celebrating Mother’s Day and was chatting with his wife and her two daughters on the No. 6 train platform at E. 116th St. early Monday when three homeless men mobbed him and slashed him in the face, the family recounted.
The suspects were sitting on a bench about 3:20 a.m. and thought Sanchez and his wife were strangers and that Sanchez was hassling her, said the victim’s 18-year-old stepdaughter, Jessica Martinez.
The three men then mounted an overzealous, violent rescue, she recounted.
“Me and my mom were already waiting for the train. My stepdad was behind us, and they thought he was bothering us because he was in the back and walking slow,” Martinez recalled. “I said, ‘That’s my stepdad,’ but they didn’t listen. They surrounded him.”
One of the assailants pulled out a blade and sliced Sanchez in the face.
“I pulled him away and I called the cops,” Martinez said. “They just sat there.... It happened so fast.”
Police arrested all three men, identified as Jose Perez, 42, Ramon Arroyo, 55, and Arnaldo Estrella, 38. Perez and Arroyo were charged with assault; Estrella was charged with resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, criminal mischief and criminal trespass.

A tourist was stabbed with a screwdriver in an unprovoked attack on a train in lower Manhattan in front of his shocked family, police said Monday.
According to authorities, the 42-year-old man and his family, visiting the city from Ecuador, were aboard a downtown No. 2 train when the violence unfolded about 7:50 p.m. Sunday.
As the train approached Chambers St., a stranger — without warning — stabbed the victim with a screwdriver in the chest and left arm, police said. Medics took the victim in stable condition to Mount Sinai Beth Israel.
The victim’s wife pointed out the suspect to cops as he tried to get away when the doors opened at the Chambers St. stop, authorities said

^ One reason the "defund" spiel rings pretty damn hollow with most New Yorkers. Social workers etc. ain't gonna do much good on the subway or in Time Square, for that matter. The MTA workers can't even protect themselves much less passengers.
It's a lot of poor and working people who are stuck taking the subway, Uber is vastly preferred if one can afford it (buses are out of the question unless you are retired and have all the time in the world, they can take hours and hours because of the traffic situation combined with their many stops.)
The thing that really gets me is official BLM website explanation of their desire to eventually abolish police and prisons. So that they can do what ths state of Georgia just got rid of --citizen's arrests--that's right, neighborhood watch people (kind of like, say, George Zimmerman, eh? that worked out well). It will be a happy happy world where everyone who is a part of the "community" keeps an eagle eye on every stranger (perhaps one with different color skin?) that travels the streets. Hussle them off to "community counseling" (by force if necessary) if he won't behave, sort of like kangaroo courts? Sounds just dandy, sort of like a mix of Jim Crow and old west vigilantism. Laws, what laws? we decide whether you fit in or don't belong here. Got the bible. Anarchism is where far left and far right meet, two peas in a pod, and both just love some guns for self-protection.

As of about noon Monday on the West Coast, the nation had endured at least 355 separate shooting incidents over the previous 72 hours in which 123 people died and 297 were wounded. The sick thing is that’s not unusual.
I looked up the stats on the Gun Violence Archive as I contemplated the fourth mass shooting in Colorado in 2021, the most recent coming Sunday in Colorado Springs. A circle of family and friends had gathered to celebrate a birthday at a trailer in a mobile home park when, according to police, the boyfriend of one of the celebrants showed up with a gun and shot six adults — avoiding shooting children who were present — and then himself.
Again, the sick thing is, that wasn’t an unusual explosion of violence for the U.S. In fact, it was the196th mass shooting — incidents in which at least four people other than the gunman are wounded or killed — since the start of the year, a pace of well more than one mass shooting a day.
The human tally so far in those incidents: 224 dead and 777 injured for a total of 1,001 people killed or maimed, or five victims per incident.
Late last week the Biden administration announced that it would seek new regulations that would require background checks for people seeking to buy so-called ghost gun kits [....]
Still, no one should think that the proposed ghost gun regulations will affect the broader problem we have with gun violence.
[.....] The new rules would help, obviously, as did the Trump administration’s move to ban the bump stocks that turn semi-automatic firearms practically into machine guns. [.....]
But in reality these steps just nibble around the edges of the problem.
The Swiss-based Small Arms Survey estimates that there are 393 million firearms in private hands in the U.S., or 120 guns for every 100 people. It’s notable that we really don’t know the true number, again a function of a government and a Congress controlled on this issue by the people who make, sell and buy the guns.
An event turns violent inside the Hyatt Regency in Phoenix, AZ last night. 1 dead 7 wounded. Reports still a little sketchy but it appears all victims were between 18 and 24 years old.https://t.co/pOvgeZmcn3
Yesterday's shooting was another painful reminder of the violence that grips our city. Shootings are up. Subway crime is up. Anti-Asian hate crime is up. It will be on the next mayor to take the serious and urgent steps necessary to restore safety to our streets.
As mayor, I will increase community policing to fight & prevent crime. The best crime strategy is a prevention strategy. We will implement an interdisciplinary focus to get guns off our streets, working together with @NYPDnews, ATF, prosecutors, the chief medical examiner & DAs.
(note: NYPD already does "community policing" each precinct does lots of outreach, but I don't know how much of their man hours are allotted)
We will increase the rebate rate on the gun buyback program 10x from $200 to $2,000. We want New Yorkers to have cash in their pockets to buy necessities and pay rent — not guns.
the Bloomberg thing: anything to get guns out of the city
We will prioritize fast action on gun cases in our courts, to get high-risk repeat offenders off the street. And we will increase the size of the NYPD Gun Violence Suppression Division to better identify & dismantle the people & groups responsible for trafficking & selling guns.
New York City's recovery will only work if everybody feels safe in our neighborhoods. This uptick we're experiencing in crime and gun violence must end, and I have the plans to stop it. https://t.co/35JhK7ldW5

I looked for better info., whole story is wack and confusing, there is either lousy communication with the media, or clueless media down there, or they are hiding something. Happened last night. All say it's about a dog complaint, but nothing else about the dog complaint in any of them.
One says they stopped the perp in car a block from his house and told him to put his hands up (why?) and he fled to his house (why?) a block away and barricaded in. Most mention an "altercation" Then I find one that says there was a half hour standoff INCLUDING THE MAYOR of the town who lived closeby, is a neighbor, and tried to help get the guy to surrender!.
Where's the dog complaint part of the story?
Perp is arrested right away, his arrest photo is broadcast. And he is even charged already with murder! Who arrested him if they are both dead? There were more cops there! There was a standoff.
Meanwhile the governor knows about it right away!
There's a picture of cop cars in procession accompanying officer bodies to autopsy, they all know what happened and where but the media doesn't
Nothing more about a dog.
What's really going on here? Is this guy an anti-cop extremist of some sort or did he have a warrant out on him or is he mentally ill?
I admit I read something the other day that suggested that this #MeToo is an orchestrated hit job, and that it basically made him toast as a candidate, it was by like an analyst type that didn't have an agenda beyond analyzing election prospects. I went looking for it, couldn't find it, but I found this, The Intercept on it. Throw that together with Katha Pollitt and you got: lefties saying this, go figure. BUT BUT BUT here's the thing: he's boring was toast to begin with, nobody in NYC at this point in time wants such an old Dem machine guy (much less an old white one) with "decades of experience". At what? doing things badly, that's what they see, they want the opposite of that. It's the AOC story here: vote for anyone but old farts who have proved themselves not to be able to solve a damn thing. Also anyone that worked with DeBlasio gets extra demerit points. So it's like someone targeted a loser with dirty tricks, so what? I suspect old style lefties are defending him may be about him originaly being a protege of Rep. Nadler. It's the old tyme upper west side style liberal gang that thinks they are still game BUT THEY ARE NOT....always delusions that they can win again with good bleeding heart pie-in-sky liberal types like our current mayor and his lovely wife. Would not be surprised if Katrina van der Heuvel comes out with righteous defense as well. Robert Reich, too, he's the type.
finally found some clarity to the story from shoe-leather reporters on the scene last night interviewing eyewitnesses! dog(s) included! by Yantis Green, May 10 at sanagelolive.com
[....] San Angelo Live! has a reporter on the scene.
There is no known motive at this time and the victims have not been identified.
According to witnesses, Law enforcement officers pulled the suspect over and they heard the cops say, "Roll your window down and then put up your hands." According to witnesses, the driver fled and after a short pursuit the suspect stopped at his home around the corner.
The next thing witnesses reported hearing was nine or ten gunshots. "People shooting back and forth..."
Reporters on the scene relay that witnesses said there are six dogs that are vicious that control the neighborhood. One witness said the suspect was yelling at law enforcement saying, "Those aren't my dogs. You are always harassing me and tasing me.."
Witnesses say there was a short standoff when the shooter barricaded himself inside his home. He shouted out to officers that he has Constitutional rights.
After a few intense minutes, the shooter surrendered uneventfully to law enforcement and was handcuffed and placed into the back of a Concho County Sheriff's office vehicle.
According to reports, Eden Mayor Pete Torres convinced the suspect to surrender. The shooter was barricaded for about 30 minutes during the standoff.
Mayor Torres reportedly lives around the corner from the crime scene in a stone house.
This is a developing story.
I still have many questions. Including:
Why the mayor of Eden never did anything about a literal wild pack of dogs "controlling" his very own neighborhood
If the cops were indeed always harassing and tasing Jeffrey Nicholas, why were they always doing it?
^ for those not paying attention: hearsay is that accused shooter complained he was repeatedly harassed and tased by police. He is white:

This story brings up how gun licensing doesn't have a chance of helping if others let someone have their gun or don't even report it stolen. Plus, without any record of domestic violence, sounds like someone like him could have gotten one anyway. There really isn't hope of an alternative to trying to prevent stuff like this from happening except government authorities of some kind demanding treatment for anger management.after less violent incident, at the cost of privacy of us all. (if not police, some other, but is someone like this going to be frightened into treatment by "some other"? ) I don't know if restraining orders have a chance of working. I do know it is common for vicitms to complain that police don't enforce them enough.
“At the core of this horrendous act is domestic violence,” Chief Vince Niski said. “The suspect… displayed power and control issues. When he wasn’t invited to a family gathering, the suspect responded by opening fire.”

At least half a dozen people were shot across the Big Apple overnight, police said Thursday — as the surging gun violence shows no signs of slowing.
One of the incidents was fatal — and allegedly involved the gang member accused of opening fire on NYPD officers in Brooklyn around 11:15 p.m.
Sources said Boyce Hayward is suspected in a shooting just minutes earlier in Bushwick that left a 28-year-old man dead and a 21-year-old man hospitalized.
Both victims — who sources said were members of the Crips gang — were shot multiple times in the torso inside a white BMW SUV before the suspect fled.
The fatal encounter adds to the soaring number of shootings so far this year, which has seen more than 450 shooting incidents with over 500 victims of gunplay.

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - An attempt to serve a warrant Thursday morning turned into a tense situation that led to evacuations and the closure of a thoroughfare before the suspect surrendered to authorities.
It started around 9:30 a.m. at the Breckinridge II Apartments at 309 E. Martintown Road, just north of the Knox Avenue intersection and catty-corner from a busy shopping center that includes a Publix supermarket and Ross Dress for Less.
North Augusta Department of Public Safety officers tried to execute a warrant at the residence of Christopher Lee.
When Lee saw the oncoming presence of law enforcement, he retreated back into his apartment, authorities said.
Units near Lee had to be evacuated and traffic was diverted from Martintown Road.
By shortly after 11 a.m., Lee had been arrested without incident and Martintown Road reopened soon after that.
“All agencies and divisions within law enforcement from both sides of the river acted flawlessly in the execution of their training and tactics while working together in the apprehension of Mr. Lee,” Lt. Tim Thornton of the North Augusta Department of Public Safety said Thursday afternoon. “Thank you to the public for their patience and understanding during the inconvenience of normal traffic flow on Martintown Road this morning as well as the residents of Breckinridge II Apartments for their cooperation.”

Though he was ahead of his time in female empowerment - the women really walked the walk in his org, not just fixing tea and making babies.
As a native 58-year-old New Yorker, I am interested in Adams and will probably vote for him. My No. 1 priority for NYC is safety. His police background is a big plus for me. There are things in his past I don't like but even the best NYC mayors like Giuliani and Bloomberg were imperfect. (Understatement!) I would also like to see the Black and Asian communities band together. I work in a mostly White profession in which there are few Blacks and Asians and we have always leaned on each other for support. These days I'm sad and terrified that it's the opposite on the NYC streets.
@Japanese American So you live in fear? Who do you want to blame for that? With respect to the program of "stop and frisk" Eric Adams own words, The NY Times reports, were used by Judge Shira A. Scheindlin to render a ruling that the program "violated the constitutional rights of those who were stopped". Look at the numbers, what communities in NYC do you think have a higher disproportionate incidence of violent crime? I am a life long hispanic city resident and I know that any honest hispanic or black resident for that matter, will tell you that "stop and frisk" worked. The program that Eric Adams opposed was created to deter and reduce the use of illegal handgun use in addition to the fear of living in NYC.
Stop and frisk was a sound legal decision that the NYPD grossly overused to the point of absurdity. The calmer voices that should have prevailed to place it in the proper context and usage were instead shouted down until it was completely eviscerated. Literally a case of babies and bath water.
We can see the Park Slope Paper looks down it’s collective nose at Mr. Adams, a genuine New Yorker and former police officer - two strikes against him in the woke canon of Times editors and target demographic readers… who like their 2013 choice of Bill de Blasio like their wokeness warmed over in a Maya Wiley sort of way.
I completely agree. Also, I’m disappointed to see, more and more, that many of NYT’s articles (including news stories) seem to have a particular agenda. I just want the news, straight.
@Hannah W The article lies about him being against stop and frisk (he is for it, as he said on the news somewhat recently that it should have never been gotten rid of) and doesn’t mention much of any of his corruption. It didn’t go nearly far enough in being negative. This is a soft piece compared to their Yang coverage, and his first piece in over 5 months.
Adams supports stop and frisk, He did not fight a hard fight against it or whatever like the article claims. https://twitter.com/zachandmattshow/status/1381286646352650240?s=21 Adams is beyond corrupt and is so far right he’s essentially a republican. There’s a reason Tucker Carlson praised him on Fox News recently and essentially pitted him as the man to save NYC from the democrats.
At this point, although I have been for decades voting for Democrats, I would appreciate a Republican mayor. And a Republican City Council. I want psychotic people in secure institutions. I want inebriated and drug-addled vagrants off the sidewalks and in secure rehabilitation centers. I want young men who are over-fond of their guns and very bad shots to stop shooting innocent bystanders, and the best way to do that is to stop likely suspects, speak nicely to them, and then ... frisk them. I want high bails set for acts of violence. Somehow, I want young men -- it's almost always young men -- to understand that the sonic blasts of rhythmic aggression emanating from their cars are antisocial, and that their smoking of noxious weed everywhere also is antisocial. Perhaps they do know. That is probable, and they're giving the city the raised middle digit. The right to loud music and marijuana stenches ends with other people's ears and nostrils. We used not to allow public intoxication, loud broken mufflers, in general things that were intrusive to others. We tried to curb graffiti, we tried to stop vandalism, we caught people speeding. Now we're not allowed to. Why? Someone needs to bring this city back from near-chaos. It won't be a Democrat.
I would argue that this attack has more to do with the perception of the msnbc crowd and activist reporters more than actual New Yorkers who are wondering why the city seems to be on a path back to 1980? Why is this happening?

Oregonian poll: Portland metro residents call downtown unsafe & uninviting, suggests city needs to get its own house in order before tackling national, global issues. (Oregonian, 5/16/21, p. A1) pic.twitter.com/zZDH42LcUN
People need to read the opb.org article on Portland above, the rampup this weekend is at the suggestion of the FBI, has to do with black lives, and has little to do with the police union's voiced fears:
[....] “Enough is enough. Portland is not supposed to be this way,” wrote Keiran Ramsey, special agent in charge of the FBI in Oregon. “Our biggest hope with this overt effort is that we can stop the seemingly indiscriminate cycle of violence.”

Friday that 25-year-old Danae Williams died
following a shooting Wednesday, May 12, 2021
in Portland's Woodlawn neighborhood. Portland Police Bureau
Members of the Portland Police Bureau’s Enhanced Community Safety Team and the FBI plan to have officers present in areas of the metro area that have seen significant spikes in gun violence this year.
“There are random, innocent victims who did nothing more than be in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Ramsey said in his statement.
News of the increased law enforcement presence came Friday after Portland police announced that Danae Williams, 25, was the latest person killed in a shooting. Williams and an unidentified man were critically wounded in a Woodlawn neighborhood shooting Wednesday. Williams died in the hospital Friday, but police said they expect the man to survive.
Williams was the second person to die from shootings that took place Wednesday. Earlier in the week, Portland police announced that 33-year-old Jalon Yoakum had been killed in a shooting. Yoakum is the stepson of Portland Pastor Matt Hennessee, who has frequently been at the side of city leaders in efforts to curb gun violence. Shootings this week also injured several people, including a newspaper carrier in Northeast Portland.“There is an urgent need for everyone to recognize and respond to the profound and lasting harms inflicted by gun violence,” Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt wrote in a statement. “I join community leaders and law enforcement to say I am worried about retaliatory and targeted shootings that may occur at funerals and vigils after someone is murdered.”
[....] After a Gresham shooting in April, seven people were shot at a vigil for the original victim.
[....]
The Portland City Council issued a joint statement Friday, saying they hoped increased law enforcement this weekend can help break a cycle of retaliatory violence.
“Their high visibility presence in the community is intended to deter

anyone considering committing criminal acts,” the council said in its statement. “Crime Prevention Outreach workers from Office of Violence Prevention will also be in the community where needed to provide support and ease tensions.”
The City Council said it learned this week that groups from Washington and California may also be in Portland and contributing to the gun violence.
“Groups involved in this violence have issued an order to shoot someone in the next 30 days or be shot for not showing loyalty,” the council wrote.
Whether the increased law enforcement presence over the weekend has an effect remains to be seen. By Saturday morning, roughly 12 hours after the City Council and law enforcement statements, Portland police officers reported another shooting in Ventura Park in Southeast Portland. A woman was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
I am at a real loss to understand why I am supposed to give a preference in my memory to remembering the name Breonna Taylor but nobody outside of Portland gives two hoots about remembering the names Danae Williams or Jalon Yoakum. It's not just absurd but tragic, makes me angry, breaks my heart, seems horrendously ridiculous and unfair. I suspect FBI Agent Ramsey agrees and likewise, gives two hoots about what BLM and related anti-police lefties think of him. (I do hope he's able to instruct the police on his team to stop and frisk every dang person that looks like they are carrying a gun this weekend...)
I think when FBI's UCR comes out for 2020, this will be the story (someone could figure it out right now if they have an extraordinary amount of time on their hands). It's not the death that's the problem just the means of death, if it's not police... https://t.co/shNRghhtIp
We’ve continued to cut the budget. It’s bonkers. I was sitting on my back deck on Wednesday listening to shots ring out. Later, the news reported that someone was murdered just up the street. pic.twitter.com/hw1qHnXsfC
Think there were 3 shootings last Wednesday night, right?
Annoys me to no end that the activists pushed for police budget cuts on a racial justice narrative, but the ensuing gang violence overwhelmingly falls on people of color. Young black kids getting cut down for nothing.
Yes, that’s the dumbfounding thing about it. There will be no marches for them, but it’s a much larger threat to everyone’s life than the cops. Cops definitely aren’t perfect and need reform, but let’s be real here. The data says confirms it.
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A massive police response rushed to Legacy Emanuel after 4 gunshot victims arrived around 10:30 p.m. in what investigators said appears to be a gang related incident.
The people were shot on Swan Island in an incident in which at least 50 bullets were fired, officials told KOIN 6 News. The conditions of the wounded are not available at this time.
A large group of people began arriving at the hospital after the wounded people arrived. Authorities told KOIN 6 News all available units were ordered to go to Legacy Emanuel. Some officers were then seen speeding off, with lights and sirens, to another scene.
At least 20 PPB officers were seen guarding the door to the hospital.
An officer described this as an “extremely fluid situation.”
Last week the FBI joined PPB to help quell what they said was an “imminent” threat of retaliatory gun violence from rival gangs.
“There is a cycle of violence that’s ongoing here, that is without question there are retaliatory acts of violence that are connected and that we can see through any number of shootings [....]

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Police are looking for the gunmen who opened fire into a car with three kids inside in the Alief area overnight.
The shooting happened just before 10 p.m. Sunday on Zarroll Drive near Kirkwood Road.
Houston police say a man and three children were parked on the side of the road when a vehicle pulled up and a couple individuals got out, opening fire on the man's vehicle.
The suspects fled the scene after the shooting, according to police.
The man was shot in the arm. He is expected to survive. A 3-year-old inside the vehicle was also injured, HPD said. Both victims were transported to the hospital.
"The 3-year-old was also transported with possible glass injuries from one of the bullets passing through the window, possible shrapnel, minor injuries is what I'm being told," Lt. Christopher Bruce said.
The other two children, ages 4 and 7, were not hurt, and were handed over to relatives, according to HPD.
Officers do not have any information on possible suspects or a motive in the shooting.

At what? doing things badly, that's what they see, they want the opposite of that.

There's a Manson Family-like murder every week or 2 now - poor Chuck would've really had to raise the ante on his global race war/pop star channeling schtick to get noticed these days. Though he was ahead of his time in female empowerment - the women really walked the walk in his org, not just fixing tea and making babies.

People need to read the opb.org article on Portland above, the rampup this weekend is at the suggestion of the FBI, has to do with black lives, and has little to do with the police union's voiced fears:
