Farmer was actually so aware of the belief system of the people he served that he developed a very constructive relationship with Gustavo Gutierrez, the founder of liberation theology, a socialist oriented variant of Christianity that is very popular in Latin America. Farmer and Gutierrez did a series of books and talks together.
