Clearly, from this AP story, just published Netanyahu is betting the majority of the Israeli electorate still approves:

Article even suggests that it is a campaign habit of his to go with more tribal incitement when he's threatened, as in: demonization of and fear of "the other", it sells. That it's cynical politicking, not necessarily what he would do if given his druthers. Ah, democracy....
