Some inquiring minds want to know, where is Nikole Hannah-Jones and Ta-Nehisi Coates?
Student demos at Howard Univ are an example of the class divide that is fundamental to understanding social relations, contrary to the racialist views of highly paid HU employees Ta-Nehisi Coates and Nikole Hannah-Joneshttps://t.co/KJP2jQRcWz#BlackburnTakeover#HowardUniversity
Less than a week after trustees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill belatedly voted to grant tenure to New York Times reporter Nikole Hannah-Jones, Howard University announced Hannah-Jones will instead be joining its faculty.
Howard, the prestigious historically Black university in Washington, D.C., also announced it is hiring writer and Howard alumnus Ta-Nehisi Coates, author of Between the World and Me.
Their positions were funded by nearly $20 million in donations from the Knight Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Ford Foundation as well as an anonymous donor.
The funding establishes the Knight Chair in Race and Journalism, a tenured position to be held by Hannah-Jones [....]
Here's an inkling that the current state of journalism on the campus may be a bit troubled
Howard University’s student newspaper, The Hilltop, says it is being advised by the Student Press Law Center after allegations from Howard’s administration of inaccuracy and bias. The #BlackburnTakeover is still happening at Howard. pic.twitter.com/cMzQqAZLbB
Oh, so woke 1619 staff means they can't have nice things like safe, clean, no infested housing? I wonder if anyone told the Board before they approved these hirings.
Oh look, just ran across--Nikole's busy still bitterly bitchin' about UNC:
“The BoT at NC’s flagship university has given itself new power over highly paid faculty appointments in the aftermath of controversy over tenure for a Black journalism professor.”Predictable. Also, weird to be referred to simply as “a Black professor.”
If we had let Russia take over Japan, Tokyo and Seoul lwuld have been like East Berlin. Who knows if that Wall would have come down 40 years later, but more likely the Domino Theory would've been carried out much more effectively with the Russians having friendlier Pacific ports.
Glad we used the bomb - sorry for the people who suffered, but somehow the Jews killed in the Warsaw uprising and the Holocaust and the millions of Africans killed in Rwanda and the 5 year Congo war and the 5 million Ukrainians starved in the Holodomor are just as tragic and senseless, and we don't stop time and history to declare 1 item anathema without considering the rest. Give me an article that at least mentions Stalin by name, hopefully Beria as well, and then maybe I'll engage. Here's a view from the bridge through a modern Central European capital 1960. Picture it around the Pacific rim. (how Mao would have fared against a Stalin based in Manchuria and Japan is also an interesting thought.
Just tell people to just stop shooting themselves is as brilliant as the Nancy Reagan "Just Say No To Drugs" campaign and its offshoot, DARE. Both had zero impact on drug use.
I'm not married to a president, but yes, "Just Say No" had an effect on drug use. It of course didn't end illegal drug use, but for some reasonable segment, I'm sure it was an effective rallying cry. Certainly it's a slogan that everyone seems to know.
The “Just Say No” campaign increased public awareness of drug use, but there is no hard evidence that the campaign actually worked. That said, the use and abuse of recreational drugs did decrease during the Reagan presidency. However, it’s Believed That This was a Coincidence.
Still, setting up lawn chairs on the corner or spouting "Just Say No" or defunding the police are not on AA and my shortlist of obvious things that could make a difference to keep black retards/degenerates/primitives with guns from shooting largely their own race. I would love to tell them "grab your dicks instead" and have it do something, but judging from lyrics, they're whacking off *AND* whacking others both, so let's go for _lock the motherfuckers/super predators/super idiots up and don't let them out via crappy directives to law enforcement and the courts", and "punish anyone carrying a gun illegally (and especially if used in a crime) SEVERELY". I'm pretty sure this has been suggested before, but I'd rather see harsher penalties for guns than grass, dig?
As for Howard, I'm sure it's important for the students, but not quite sure why it's even mentioned on Dagblog - are we just News of the Weird and anything's a thing? We have to know which woke black character is in Hiroshima at the moment, and who said what about an LGBTQ person, and someone fell off their bike and scratched their knee, and what else?
The truth about "Just Say No" and it's offshoot DARE
If you were a grade or middle school student in the 1980’s or 90’s, you remember DARE. Founded in 1983, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) was a byproduct of Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” campaign and America’s “War on Drugs”. In essence, DARE was the youth-directed arm of these campaigns. Over roughly 15 years, DARE was a hallmark of public education. At its peak in the early 90’s, DARE was implemented in 75% of schools and cost taxpayers an estimated $600 million to $750 million a year. Although immensely popular and touted by politicians, parents, and school officials, DARE had one glaring problem: DARE did not work.
The first (but not the last) major study to indicate the DARE program’s failure was conducted by the American Psychological Association (APA). After 10 years of the program’s implementation, the APA ran a study of 1002 individuals in their early 20’s who participated in DARE in 6th grade. The study found no measurable positive outcomes regarding drug use, attitudes towards drugs, or self-esteem. Beyond the cheesy mascots (Daren the Lion), long lectures, and cringe-worthy catchphrases, why the DARE program failed can be attributed to three fundamental reasons.
I didn't debate DARE. I don't care about DARE. I just noted everyone in the whole fucking world knows "Just Say No", so for some segment somewhere it was probably effective, perhaps much like "just wait until marriage" works for some as well. You have to be right about every fucking thing in the world. There's lots of stuff i don't know, so I assume somewhere someone's doing something i didn't approve of yet it might be turning out alright. Curious to think, no? 12 point programs may be a racket to some, effective support to others. If someone's hit bottom or a teen in Jr High around smokers and snorters, "Just Say No" might be just easy enough to cut through the temptations and quandaries. Ironically someone offered me a line of coke a couple nights ago, and i gave my standard reply, "No thanks". No big philosophy, just don't do it. Me and Nancy sitting in a tree... If only I'd done the same with the free shots i probably would've felt much much better the next day.
As usual you have total blinders on related to economic class issues that are suggested by the article, and which are stressed in the tweet by "Harvey Simpkins", who is clearly bringing up the well-paid and now upper class and very comfortable nearly "wealthy" Prof. Coates and Prof. Hannah-Jones
And that the point of supporters of the students is that there is a class divide between poor students and faculty and administration.
And yes, Jesse Jackson is there supporting the students. BECAUSE he has virtually always been on the side of the lower class of all colors of skin.
BUT YOU continue to basically present the tribal picture that this is all one big happy family of one skin color having a little family argument, a nothing burger, no class issues, no such thing, they are all the same black tribe in unity and equality against whypipple, rich or poor, except for the one asshole president.
So in the end your simplistic read (none are so blind who those who can't see) actually validified and made stronger my snarky and flippant title.
Do you really think those kids are happy about Prof. Hannah-Jones "fact finding" in Hiroshima on an expensive trip to Japan rather than publicly supporting them complaining about living in #ghetto conditions, or at the very least publicly supporting the student newspaper, being that the latter is within her field of speciality?
and let me do this pre-emptive against your usual straw manning right here:

Why don't you get that people here are not ever going to be convinced by your polemic, that they either already share your views or they don't and might not care to express them because: what good does that do? We are a few anonymous people on the internet!.
And that the most usual criticism of you here is due to the fact that you use other's analysis (not opinion, but analysis) as a jumping point to get into polemic and pedantry. Often it appears that you are not even reading what people post but just "jumping off" right away.
If you're going to do that, you should blog, not hijack and create strawmen to play with.

The black community has never been as uniform or defined as we were led to believe. A lot of effort was just put in to making it seem that way for political reasons. It helped to keep people like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan stay relevant for decades.
Conservatives talked about this at length since at least the 1960s, but the credibility was never really there because some white conservatives were/are actually legit racist and are those outside boogeymen that corrupt black leaders would point to as a threat.
There has always been differences of opinion that were obvious
Booker T Washington vs. W.E.B DuBois
Martin Luther King Jr. vs Malcolm X
Al Sharpton had disputes with BLM
The Goebbels statement is not applicable.
John McWhorter has verbal battles with Ta- Nehisi Coates
Cornel West disagreed with Barack Obama.
Name the corruption committed by Washington, DuBois, King, Malcolm X, Coates, McWhorter, West, Obama.
Your slur many people because you disagree with their POV.
Edit to add:
As yo noted any "corrupt Black activist can be matched by a racist white Conservative.
Just say that you disagree with Black activists and leave it at that.
2nd Edit to add:
Rev. William Barber and Roland Martin are among those called to campus by the students. Are they corrupt?
When was the last time you saw Farrakhan in the spotlight?
Your reply has nothing to do with the conservation. I pointed out that "tribal" was used in the title. The obvious implication was that there was a supposed Black Uni-mind. I pointed out that different leaders had different viewpoints Seconldy, certain Black leaders are dismissed as corrupt. Jesse Jackson, for example, is included in that group. Reverend Jackson is 80-years old and has Parkinson's. He is negotiating with the HU President at the request of the students. He suffered a fall as a result of the imbalance caused by his disease. The reverend was hospitalized. He is still supporting the students. I reject Orion's associating him with corruption. Orion can simply say that he does not like Jesse Jackson.
Edit to add:
Regarding Farrakhan, despite Orion's opinion, the Nation of Islam works in prison systems to change the lives of incarcerated Black men.
Those Who Know Don't Say
The Nation of Islam, the Black Freedom Movement, and the Carceral State
If one can't call this tribal then the word has no meaning:
What percentage of Howard University students are white?
The enrolled student population at Howard University, both undergraduate and graduate, is 71.3% Black or African American, 6.1% Hispanic or Latino, 3.37% Two or More Races, 2.78% Asian, 2.26% White, 1.17% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.213% Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islanders.
Howard itself has always been known to set the standard of Black excellence and moving the culture forward...Whether you’re an athlete or never played sports, an actor, business major, or engineer, it’s the voice that everyone has that comes together to make this school so great.
He does have a point - if we're going to contend there are diverse viewpoints among blacks, we should accept that a traditionally black school is not lockstep homogenous either - though for some areas/philosophies more than others. And these characteristics also change across generations - GenZ, millennial, GenX, boomers.... similar splits.
Huh, if you are trying to argue that blacks are not equally represented, your links make no sense as self-identified Blacks are 12% of the population. You need to go back and find some data from like, 1970
No I do not "argue" from both sides.
You're the one always making points that people are tribal and we can't change that and therefore "minorities" still need to stick together in SEGREGATED colleges. Going back to my Fukuyama and "Wokee" threads, you were always simplistically and idiotically piping up with: but tribalism is a good thing!
Jesus H. Christ, have you become so warped by years of cherry-picked segregated reading by skin color that you don't even know what 'CLASS" means? ECONOMIC CLASS, read up on it. It's a thing. It even divides people in supposed racial tribes, imagine that.
I am not even thinking of you anymore when I do sarcasm in titles like that, I'm talking to intelligent sophisticated people who still mistakenly wallow in racialism.
Your attacks are clueless, you don't even understand what others on this forum are saying. It's become REAL tiresome to engage with your comprehension level of the discussions, a real tiresome waste of time.
And, I have come to believe, a real depressant of participation here, people are not looking for the level of talk you provide, how you hijack, they run from threads you get active on. They don't want to get dragged down into lowest common denominator pedantry and have to go through stupid Race 101 links.
If you continue to require reading comprehension classes and understanding of economic class issues, I am not going to be the teacher. I refuse and wish you'd stop dragging threads down to your stupid level of discussion
I'd really just like to say: your questions and answers are almost all simplistic or moronic and not worth the time of day and make people flee participating. Tired of being polite about that. Stupid of me to take so long to come to that conclusion.
Would be great if you went back to starting your own blogs, your own little separate world.
Howard University students reach deal to end month-long protest over housing, other issues
After a month-long protest waged against Howard University administrators over housing issues, transparency and representation, students and officials have reached a resolution, demonstrators announced Monday morning.
Students have “substantially accomplished their objectives,” Donald Temple, the students’ attorney, told The Washington Post, marking the end of one of the longest student-led protests in the school’s history. The terms outlined in the agreement are confidential, he added.
“The students courageously journeyed on a path towards greater university accountability and transparency and public safety,” Temple said during a news conference Monday, broadcast on the daily news show Roland Martin Unfiltered.
“The university’s pleased to come to an agreement with the students,” said Frank Tramble, a Howard spokesman. The university’s president, Wayne A.I. Frederick, plans to share a longer message with the community, Tramble said.
Howard protests over mold and mice put campus housing contract under scrutiny
The announcement is the result of weeks of negotiations between students and Howard administrators. Since launching their protest Oct. 12, students have rallied around four core demands: an in-person town hall with Frederick and other officials; the permanent reinstatement of student, alumni and faculty affiliate positions that are being removed from the school’s board of trustees; a meeting with university leaders about housing; and legal, disciplinary and academic immunity for protesters.
“We came, we saw, we declared and we won,” Channing Hill, a student organizer, said on the broadcast. “Today is a new day for Bison everywhere.”
According to demonstrators, more than 100 students have been living in the Blackburn University Center, a student hub on campus and home to its largest dining hall. Dozens more, including a small group of faculty and alumni, have pitched tents outside, vowing to remain until the demands were met.

One minute, you yell Blacks are not a monolith
The next minute, you shout that Blacks are a tribe
I don't take you to be a serious person

In this "news story", the Root basically crows that HBC's may have never been in more favor and the money is pouring in to them and they are running perfectly, there are no problems to report. Oh and here's a photo illustration of Howard just in case you thought you saw something reported about problems there, no problems.
Am I just imagining things that its implied but not said that's not the same situation at non HBC'S?
Assigned article is to get some paid advertising from HBC's? After all, there is money is pouring in.
