Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unleashed the country's military against rival Pakistan in response to a terror attack by Muslim separatists that killed 44 on Thursday.
Modi said his country's "blood boils" and gave his military a "free hand" to determine "the timing, place and nature of their response."
India and Pakistan have been bitter rivals for years, and both countries have built nuclear arsenals to hold each other at bay.
Modi unleashing the military has been called an "abdication of political responsibility" that could lead to a "super dangerous" conflict between the nuclear rivals.
The U.S. condemns yesterday’s horrific terror attack on Indian security forces. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. We stand with #India as it confronts terrorism. Pakistan must not provide safe haven for terrorists to threaten international security.
48 hours after the most brutal terror attack on Indian security forces all we have done is gather condemnation tweets from across the globe. Issued multiple statements warning Pakistan. Screamed our lungs out on TV. Saw coffins of our bravehearts. When will we make Pakistan pay?

India's foreign ministry said US supports New Delhi's right to self-defence against cross-border attacks.

[...] In a readout released on Saturday, the foreign ministry said US National Security Adviser John Bolton spoke to his Indian counterpart, Ajit Doval, on Friday night, promising to help bring those behind the attack to justice.
"The two NSAs vowed to work together to ensure that Pakistan cease to be a safe haven for JeM and terrorist groups that target India, the US and others in the region," the foreign ministry said.
"They resolved to hold Pakistan to account for its obligations under UN resolutions." [....]
Pakistan condemned the attack and rejected India's allegations.
On Friday, Pakistan's Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua held a meeting with ambassadors of the United States, China, Russia, Britain and France, to push back against India's accusations.
In a statement, Janjua complained about "a familiar Indian pattern of immediate and reflexive assignment of blame on Pakistan without investigations."
On the same day, Pakistan's Foreign Office also summoned India's top diplomat, Acting Deputy High Commissioner Gaurav Ahluwalia, to protest India's "baseless allegations", according to state-owned Radio Pakistan [....]
Since they were soldiers, this can't compare to the Indian military's terror in Kashmir. The separatists have also murdered noncombatants, but not as many.
Looks like ramping up of tremendous amounts of outrage on both sides to me and the purpose of the terrorist attack therefore fulfilled. Whoever did it, that's what they wanted and they got it.

NEW DELHI — Indian warplanes conducted airstrikes in the Pakistan-controlled side of Kashmir on Tuesday, Pakistani officials said, in an escalation of tensions between the nuclear-armed nations after a suicide bombing against Indian troops in the disputed region this month.
If confirmed, it would be the first time that Indian aircraft had crossed the Kashmir Line of Control to strike in years. But it was unclear what, if anything, the attack jets hit on the Pakistani side, raising the possibility that India was making a calculated bet to assuage public anger but minimize the risk of a major Pakistani military response.
A spokesman for Pakistan’s armed forces, Maj. Gen. Asif Ghafoor, on Tuesday posted on Twitter four images of a forested area pockmarked with small craters and debris, which he said was the site of Indian airstrikes [....]
