Splains what I saw yesterday, that Rouhani had basically made up his own "Axis of Evil" as a campaign point:
Brian Hook: “Rouhani asked Iranians to ‘put all your curses’ on the U.S., Israel, and Saudi Arabia in response to a crumbling economy. https://t.co/UulAsplmIG
According to sources who saw Kushner's plan: Jordan would give land to the Palestinian territories, and "in return, Jordan would get land from Saudi Arabia, and that country would get back two Red Sea islands it gave Egypt to administer in 1950."https://t.co/3eexBoo2Ty
Lots of news on the Mideast geo-political front today after the big meeting between Syria, Iran, Iraq military chiefs. (And yeah, who gives a shit about Palestine anymore? Not anyone in the 'hood):
On Sunday, clashes broke out in northern Iraq between a group of Yazidi paramilitaries and members of the Iraqi army. The Iraqi army claims that a force of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) attacked a checkpoint, resulting in deaths on both sides. The serious incident – in the Sinjar area where ISIS attempted genocide against members of the Yazidi minority – will raise concerns about instability but it is also part of a larger regional attempt to crackdown on groups connected to the PKK.
On March 6, Turkey and Iran said they were planning to work more closely to confront the PKK [....]
“No formal U.S. process or executive committees were initiated to review the policy before Trump’s decision, and the diplomats responsible for implementing the policy were left in the dark.”
The timing was just right. "...when President Trump on Thursday called for the United States to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan, the shift was met across much of the Arab world with a shrug."https://t.co/8RNInVXT6e
From The Economist's Middle East Correspondent, and author of "How Long Will Israel Survive? The Threat From Within.":
"[Pompeo's] express purpose for going to Lebanon was to denounce Hezbollah and its allies in the government. It is rare for a country’s top diplomat to publicly declare that a visit is aimed at berating a government or a party within it." https://t.co/ZuDwyJkjjm
Rare and yet reminiscent of how fascist demagogues foreign ministers behave, historical snapshot from Wiki:
In a protest note at Ribbentrop's (Pompeo's) behaviour, Poland's (Lebanon's) Foreign Minister reminded the (American) Foreign Minister that (Lebanon) was an independent country and not some sort of protectorate that (Pompeo) could bully at will.
The imminent recognition of the Golan as Israeli territory is very depressing. I'm not sure Trump won't soon be recognizing the West Bank and Gaza as Israeli territory.
Not very relevant, but I just had a very frustrating online debate with someone who said Israel's actions are as bad as the Holocaust. I ended up taking a Clonazepam.
Aaron, on your second point, that just strikes me as the ultimate classic in trolling. The goal was to get you to get you to the state of taking some Clonazepam, not to discuss I-P. Exact same "debates" happened all the time in the blogosphere several presidents ago to the point where proprietors decided to ban I-P threads. It's basically why "Godwin's Law" was invented. Try not to take the bait, and you'll be able to save your Clonazepam for meatspace anxiety attacks.

Riyadh’s aspiration to reach a detente with Israel renders the Arab Peace Initiative it put forth almost two decades ago almost irrelevant. https://t.co/qdiYh2y0pC

I've run across other tweets that just outright call it a Trump campaign ad, not real policy.

For Trump, with any action, his only question is, "What's in it for me, and can I get away with it?"

They need to occupy more before recognition becomes useful.
But no, while ugly, this is far from the horrors of the Holocaust. People do like to talk some...
