here is a thread report on Twitter on one removal today -
Sanitation workers arrived to clear an East Village encampment, now police have arrived and the street has been blocked off. Activists and NYCLU here keeping watch. pic.twitter.com/IoweAOI9KD
“What would it take to get you off the streets, an outreach worker ahead of a line of police officers attempting to clear the encampment, “housing!” She shouts “we need housing.” pic.twitter.com/sI18WAGgG1
And they’ve pulled back again assessing the situation, ten police officers, five sanitation workers, one outreach worker by my count. Street is still blocked off. pic.twitter.com/wZeoIjAl8m
City worker count is growing, about two dozen police and sanitation workers, still only one guy from homeless outreach, by my count. pic.twitter.com/E4jvWiG1QW
Police huddling now, one officer said they’d decide in 10 minutes what to do, another officer says he want community affairs to engage with the three people in the three tents. pic.twitter.com/hmauOJ28Ql
The Chief Hughes is telling the group gathered the people will be placed under arrest if they refuse to leave. Strategic Response group is also here, and are instructed to handle anyone interfering with people attempting to block arrests.
His accusation is correct. They are not held accountable and they know it, especially after Bloomberg left.
"Department of Social Services did not respond to questions and would not immediately provide more recent records showing how frequently people using city housing vouchers were placed into apartments."
Because nobody holds social services accountable. https://t.co/4MdS7empEp
I always find it funny that the same people who say "we know policing doesn't prevent crime" propose that crime would be knocked to zero if only police weren't supporting social services is clearing out homeless encampments. pic.twitter.com/BkQWsdRqWr
These spoiled brats 1) ignore that SW & nonpolice first responders get first dibs & rely on police to protect them; 2) they are purposefully misled by activists like this - & reps.
