Among some Black residents, she said, there have been conflicted feelings about the push to abolish the police. Many have been harassed by officers, but they also live in a neighborhood that on some nights feels like a war zone.
“Why can’t I have police reform? Why can’t I have law and order? Why do I have to pick and choose? I should be able to have both,” Spann said.
The police response seems to be that they feel stressed if their actions are called into question. Tensions existed before George Floyd. Harassment existed before George Floyd. They had to call re-enforcements in 1996. Here we go again.
Shameful. There are few disparities in our large cities greater than who is victimized by violent crime. And per @LeonydusJohnson, a significant number of these victims are children. https://t.co/DfUxbe3hrR
Although handguns are still most commonly used in violent crimes, St. Louis police say they’re seeing an alarming rise in shootings involving firearms with large-capacity magazines capable of firing more rounds and thereby causing more injury and death. https://t.co/bYMBHaQFGV
Typical shitty parent who raised a shitty child but has no idea what went wrong. "I taught him respect the gun..." How about respect other human beings? I hope her kid's victims' families take every penny of her GoFundMe money https://t.co/k4b3Xx69rC
A 19-year-old Wisconsin man has been charged with illegally providing the gun prosecutors say Kyle Rittenhouse used to fatally shoot two people and injure a third during a protest this summer in Kenosha, Wisc.https://t.co/gqVCHyjvbX
GunDeaths: FYI: As of yesterday, the U.S. reached 34,000+ gun injuries in 2020 – an approximate average of 107 non-fatal shootings per day this year. https://t.co/p3cUdC3ClW
Rifle for Rittenhouse to shoot 3 people who were attacking him. I believe in guns for self-defense. I believe in guns for protecting property. The woke still justifying vandalism and destroying people's businesses and livelihoods. Try for a win-win solution, not a zero sume, you woke bastards.
Though rightfully so, critics note the police were too friendly and supportive of armed militants. If they're protecting property, get to that property and protect it like a security guard. Don't move through a crowd of opponents where a flash point's easy to happen. Police response is still way out if whack. I don't understand why common sense seems so uncommon.
“One of the new administration’s novel plans is to implement a task force that will investigate an ongoing and often overlooked problem in the U.S.: the connection between mass shootings, violence against women, and online harassment.” https://t.co/iEK4wge1AK
More than 500 people have been killed or wounded by gunfire in Minneapolis since the start of 2020 — by far the highest tally in at least 15 years. Police officials say young people are most likely to be among those victims. https://t.co/Y58cLtTCxV
