Apocalyptic predictions of post-Brexit life in the UK risk falling into the same trap environmentalists have been baiting for themselves for decades. 1/
My first reaction is: certainly an interesting point for a major advertising/marketing professional to be making! And oy, the business must have changed quite a bit since I last paid a lot of attention. But having a few seconds to think on it: clearly it has, as this thing called professional troll teams has been invented, some of them famously run by governments. And he has concluded So, yes, shock gets you attention, but reasonableness and balance persuade. So if you want to win the argument, it helps if you try to be the grown up in the room. New world again?
When presented with facts, climate deniers and Trump supporters double down on their positions. They will not admit an error. The same is true in the case of Brexit.
p.p.s. In the U.S., they are here, still very much on both sides of the aisle but refusing to be put in with the children, they like to make grownup choices.
I'm not a professional Arta, but I pretty sure the best way to convince people is to tell them they're racists who don't care if the earth is destroyed and their grandchildren die.
Calling racists “racist” got Civil Rights laws passed.
The children’s marches this weekend called out polluters. The testimony at the UN today challenged the cowardice of member nations on climate change. The auto industry is not comfortable with Trump’s changes to emissions standards. That happened because they were labeled polluters and consumers wanted energy efficient cars. Naming the people causing the problems works.
Greta Thunberg doesn't mince words. Not even when addressing the world's most powerful people.
"We are in the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth," the Swedish climate activist told the United Nations General Assembly on Monday. "How dare you?"
Speaking during the UN Climate Action Summit in New York, the 16-year-old was visibly frustrated with her audience and at times appeared to be holding back tears of anger.
"You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words and yet, I'm one of the lucky ones," Thunberg told the assembly, her signature long braid swept to the side. "People are suffering, people are dying."
Gun laws change because gun manufacturers are challenged. Lawsuits are launched against the manufacturers. Politicians can no longer get away with just “thoughts and prayers”.

Facts don’t care if you believe in them or not.

I just think I will go with the professional about what works with the majority when that happens, as opposed to anonymous rmrd on the internet.

Where are the so-called grownups in Brexit?
by rmrd0000 on Mon, 09/23/2019 - 6:13pm
They defected from the agitprop nonsense spouting Tories and Labour and joined the Lib Dems.
by artappraiser on Mon, 09/23/2019 - 9:55pm
p.s. the grownups are leaving or looking to leave the old parties allover the world, including the U.S., getting very frustrated at being stuck with the children

Johnson still seems to have options to gum up the works

the myriad possibilities make no deal very possible

In a two-party system, a coalition would not be needed. To gain voters, one party would be Leave and the other party would be Remain.

While not a professional, I know after reading your news commentary for many years, that you're a grownup who's being facetious about the kids.

After all my fights with rmrd I thought I'd make up with that post.
And right on cue he posted just as we (probably) both knew he would.
