behind the kabuki of partisan voting on culture wars:
.@MaddowBlog: For President Biden and his party, the value is not just in exposing Republican hypocrisy, but also in reminding the public that the Democratic plan has been so effective that GOP opponents are pretending they supported it. https://t.co/Gsra5NdkuM
Nothing from Joe Biden about the Jan. 6 vote today
He tweeted this 10 hrs. ago:
America is on the move again. We’ve turned the tide on a once-in-a-century pandemic and a once-in-a-generation economic crisis. pic.twitter.com/g8vTzJPTcP
I hope Biden keeps talking about this and contextualizes GOP whining about the price of milk appropriately — Rick Scott wants to throw people out of work so they can’t afford groceries so that commodity prices will fall. pic.twitter.com/DK36StGnmF
I think Joe is just keeping on his "heal the country" meme the only way he thinks will work. Others are more interested in fighting Trumpies until they die, or what? By trying to make them heel instead of heal you draw out the martyr thing. You have to let the radicalization fade away and slowly redirect to bread and butter issues...and there's that Trump himself will be dealing a lot with courts soon...
OIC, Kevin McCarthy has the advisors smart enough to tell him where he should be going, back to establishment GOP bible against the tax-and-spend libruls:
Inflation is rising at the fastest pace in 13 years.
President Biden’s answer?
More taxes
More spending
Which will only increase costs all the more. pic.twitter.com/Y2mRSxg1Bn
Looks like he may have done the wise thing on Israel & Palestine, quietly encouraging a cease fire, instead of making it a major initiative at this time; there may be multi-lateral things going on we didn't know, there's a new troll in the mix:
China’s relentless promotion that Washington is indifferent to civilian suffering in Gaza and derelict in its duties as a global power represents more than spite or defensiveness, @MichaelSinghDC writes.https://t.co/exo5TGr5az
WOW, he might actually know a thing or two about what he's doing politically!
Biden greatly underperformed with Hispanics in 2020, but polling shows a disproportionate gain with them over the first few months of his presidency compared with where he stood in the election. https://t.co/AGcDTLS6RO

Just throwing this out there because Emma Zahn mentioned Lind's new writing in the recent past.
Just finished a quick read of Michael Lind’s The New Class War. Opposition to neoliberalism rooted in a recovery of national greatness looks to be a growing trend. This was based on material that first appeared in American Affairs. (1/2)
AA looks to be a project sympathetic to that line, coming out of the right but trying to lure some left elements. It’s partly funded by Hewlett’s after-neoliberalism initiative. You can see this in Biden & other Dems. It’s worrisome. (2/2)
Good examples of Woke attacking Biden attempting a unity meme:
.@POTUS: “Every other nation you can define by their ethnicity, their geography, their religion, except America. America was born out of an idea.” pic.twitter.com/FAHxv7KsIW
Ease back on the hyperbole, chief. The idea of "American exceptionalism" has caused much pain and grief in the world. And read some Howard Zinn or Chomsky while you're at it to get the other side of the story.
...and that idea was Colonizing, and Genocide, and Slavery, and Oppression. Truly the foundation upon which our great nation was founded. We still pursue these ideas today!

The idea to make money from exploitation of everyone and everything.
Wasn't America founded through genocide of the natives, and on the backs of slave laborers, to enshrine the exclusive political franchise of the land owning class of white men that could only sustain an image of broad franchise through the imperialist notion of manifest destiny?

The US was born out of the idea and practice of white settler colonialism, the extermination of indigenous peoples and enslavement.

Indigenous nations would disagree with this premise. Also if you are talking about other nations that were colonised by Europeans to enrich themselves- you might have to add Canada, Australia and NZ for starters....
Texas GOP priorities (read whole thread - reminds me of witches after midnight in Macbeth)
Step one is complete. By 19-12 vote Senators agreed to resolution that allows them to add stuff into the election bill that were never previously discussed in House or Senate versions of SB7
Do you remember back when Tom "The Hammer" DeLay chased representatives to Oklahoma? Clicked when the speaker said "leave the building, not just the gallery" - with maybe that not enough.
AOC retweeted this; some on the left do not at all like Biden's purported negotiation efforts on infrastructure bill:
If what I’m reading is true, I would have a very hard time voting yes on this bill.
$2 trillion was already the compromise. @POTUS can’t expect us to vote for an infrastructure deal dictated by the Republican Party. https://t.co/rdStGkTktw
Of course, it could just be threats for the purpose of keeping constituents happy, like Republicans also do.... in any case, they do not want to look supportive of Biden's efforts
