Some of these people have been through pure hell since March, one thing after another after another, like the Book of Job. The psychological pressure of being between a rock and a hard place is enormous, sometimes I think it is better to be homeless and begging on the streets as at least then you are free of responsibility to others, the temptation of just walking away must be great.

edit to add: there's a popular holiday movie, starts with an attempted suicide saved by an angel, It's A Wonderful Life! where the angel shows Jimmy Stewart what the town would be like if he had never been born. That's what parts of NYC are like now- empty, bleak, grey, a reduced number of people in poor moods just going through motions.

Also this is important point from Manuel’s. Restaurants are expected to pay liquor license fees all at once. This is a huge expense to payout at one time.
