And like it or not, the single meme from "the movement" that seems to have caught on as being pushed by his opponents is: defund the police. And the Trump campaign and media like Fox News is going to play that.
Edit to add: if the Dem party would like to give off the message that it should be "reform the police" rather than "defund the police", they've got a heckuva lot of P.R. work to do, including getting a lot of protesters on board and somehow reigning in a lot of the vigilante activism still occurring by educated young people.
A lot could happen with crime rates by election time. Unless everyone gets scared by a huge number of coronavirus deaths and starts hibernating again. (In which case, it should be mentioned: there still be a lot of deaths among African-Americans as well as everyone else!)
