My bosses somehow let me take over the top of Politico Nightly.
The topic: how Biden has finally learned, at the tender age of 77, to shut up and stay on message (mostly) after a career of, well, not doing that
thx to @suellentrop@renurayasam & the teamhttps://t.co/y5A2aXN1lq
His closing message is literally his opening message. Biden's announcement speech in April 2019 and his direct-to-camera "closing message" ad today:
“battle for the soul of the nation"
“choose hope over fear”
“unity over division.”
we are “the UNITED States of America.” pic.twitter.com/B5spMkpXYf
One bit: The caricature of Biden as a buffoonish windbag was such that Osama bin Laden instructed his assassins to only take out Obama because “Biden is totally unprepared for that post, which will lead the U.S. into a crisis,” as @eosnos reported in 2014.https://t.co/7DboX1ukaL
Biden's verbosity in two anecdotes from Axelrod's memoir.
Even during his VP interview when @davidaxelrod and @davidplouffe told Biden they were worried about his motor mouth, he'd respond w/ 10-15 minute answers. pic.twitter.com/a27YL4Xb9Z
But this campaign, Biden has stunned just about everyone by being disciplined and consistent (yes, sometimes by sticking in the basement).
Trump, meanwhile, has taken the opposite approach, betting that attention means votes.
This is what he ran on the YouTube homepage today. pic.twitter.com/YCnpCNZOMG
Biden made a formal speech today. The theme was not just bipartisan or nonpartisan but passionately anti-partisan. With coronavirus a strong focus as well. He tweeted these video excerpts
America's history is the story of "We the People."
If you give me the honor of serving as your president, I won't waste any time getting this virus under control and building our nation back better. pic.twitter.com/ZF5fvIQfSR
Andrew Sullivan very much likes what he's been seeing:
"In this old man, with his muscle memory of what we have lost, and his ability to move and change in new ways, we have an unexpected gift. Let's take it."https://t.co/dfqtRfm5Vp
Despite all his imperfections, @JoeBiden’s combination of pragmatism, moderation and essential decency make him not merely the least of the worst, but a true “gift” at this precipice moment of self-destructive political tribalism.
Man! The most uplifting piece I’ve read throughout this sordid election. Logging off Twitter right now. Im going to crack a beer and look at the stars or something. Riding this mood till tomorrow.
Fascinating. How hard do you have to squint your mind's eye, mis-remember and invent to come up with this fantasy about a man who is just another corrupt career politician?
Reacting to every breaking news item makes you their pawn. (This is the reason for what's denigrated as the "hide in the basement" thing? If you take questions from every tom dick and harry gaggle about breaking, you've lost. You unfortunately have to be selective about media at least until you are elected now?)

Meanwhile, despite the cleverness of the zombie video above by Trump operatives, here's what the boss hopes will work instead:

A reminder why it's doubly important to stay on message when running against Trump style Republicans:
