Underprivileged neighborhoods have historically been hit worst by violent crime. New research shows that in 2020, this gap between the rich and poor may have grown even wider, demonstrating a kind of violence inequality: https://t.co/uO6iBn1JuZ
One example: There were *62 shootings on one beat on the city’s West Side( compared to *77 shootings in the 16 beats* in the greater downtown area of Chicago. A failure to control violent crime mostly hurts the poorest Americans. https://t.co/uO6iBn1JuZ
The good news is, we have narrowed these gaps before. About 17% of the reduction in the life expectancy gap between white and black men could be accounted for due to the reduction in homicides during the 1990's. Stopping violent crime saves lives and reduces inequality.
Whenever I have been working/etc.in poor areas in the US, it's actually easier to deal with people and get business done. A lot of places like Richmond, CA are full of nice people who will buy you lunch. But it feels necessary to have something on you - a taser, an unloaded pellet gun, a pepperball gun, etc. Something that will just send the message to back off. It is what is is.
This argument will go a whole lot farther than other ones.

NYPD confiscated this "jerry-rigged" ghost gun from a traffic stop the other day:
But "traffic enforcement" is racist and therefore should be done by robots?

p.s. the 67th precinct is in the center of Brooklyn, comprising East Flatbush and Remsen; the Commanding Officer is Deputy Inspector Gaby Celiba:

Turns out someone's doing something that works in Dallas; the police are taking the credit for that.
