Two thoughts have been running through my mind these last few years.
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
History repeats itself, first as tragedy second as farce.
Which thought is foremost depends on my mood. Whether I'm inclined in the moment to despair or laughter.
Look at the images and videos coming out of Belarus - they're serious. This street parade is a joke, a mockery.
I said months ago that protesters need to know the message(s) they want to come across. Or exactly this kind of hippy jokester message comes across. Meanwhile, taxpayers are losing their jobs and homes and going broke, while they still pay for cops to police these fun 'n games. A $2 trillion hole in the budget not handling global warming or racism or pandemic - a not terribly organized block party that doesn't even have tunes and much alcohol. More like the skid row bums singing around a trash fire.
As far as who is paying for it, yeah that is what pisses me off most, they think money grows on trees for food, a roof, health care, internet and cell phone. If any parents are enabling this, it sickens me. Lawyers enabling pro bono doesn't bother me as much for some reason, I guess that's because I believe in toleration of hate speech and idiocy as long as it doesn't impinge on the basic societal creed that the majority agrees to.
Side note: there is, for some reason, even historically, a love of fire among those who are drawn to anarchist theories. I.E. "burn it all down". In this day and age on the west coast, that should be taken more seriously as a crime than it is, it's really terrorist, it frightens and is intended to.
I don't mind the protests even though much of it seems silly and without purpose. Stupid and silly protests with no meaningful agenda are protected free speech too. It's the harassment, looting, burning, and the violence that's a problem

Hilarious irony, I thought the whole idea when this started out was to object to the need for so many police but without they might kill each other, so....
The building there that they have been targeting lately is Federa,l HHS, and used for ICE detainment purposes. So they get HHS Federal guards to bait if they go there.

Sor far this eve, protesters are celebrating Columbus Day The Day of Indigenous Rage by pulling down statues of Abraham Lincoln & Teddy Roosevelt in downtown Portland:
This is a “day of indigenous rage”
Protesters are in downtown Portland. One statue is down
Out of towners (including one with a loaded firearm) come in to wreck the place and tear down some statues, supposedly lefties, ostensibly to support indigenous peoples's protest, but maybe more like to get national media attention and perhaps from the President of the U.S. while running for re-election:

PORTLAND, Ore — At least two men are facing charges stemming from a Portland protest-turned-riot where several downtown businesses were vandalized on Sunday night.
An Indiana manwho has been living in Washington faces a riot charge, plus others. The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office says he is accused of using a metal baton to smash out the windows of the Oregon Historical society, Portland State University and surrounding businesses.
On Monday, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced the following charges against Malik Fard Muhamad:
Criminal mischief in the first degree
Riot
Unlawful possession of a firearm
Possession of a loaded firearm in public
A gathering in Southwest Portland was declared a riot by Portland Police on Sunday night and three people were arrested after reports of vandalism and at least two statues were toppled. The Oregon Historical Society was among the properties that were damaged. According to court documents, the damage there is estimated to be more than $20,000.
According to court documents, police monitored the people assembling on Sunday night. Police say after reports of several businesses being vandalized, Muhamad was identified by his red and grey gloves and shield. Police say Muhamad attempted to run from officers, but was later found and taken into custody. They found that he was in possession of a firearm and a loaded pistol magazine.
In his statement on Monday, Multnomah County DA Mike Schmidt denounced the vandalism at the Oregon Historical Society overnight, saying:
It is sickening to me to see the destruction that occurred in Portland overnight. The damage in the South Park Blocks, at the Oregon Historical Society and other businesses in downtown is inexcusable. For more than a century the Oregon Historical Society, its staff of researchers, educators and volunteers have documented, preserved and shared Oregon’s history. They have put a spotlight on white supremacy, racism, civil rights and social inequality. They have elevated the voices and stories of marginalized and underserved communities in Oregon. I am proud of the work OHS does each day to make our state’s history accessible to everyone. The vandalism that occurred overnight has no place in our community. This violence and property destruction is without purpose and justification. My office remains committed to prosecuting individuals who commit these types of crimes so we can protect public safety.
Another man, Brandon Bartells, is facing a riot charge and a criminal mischief charge, as well, after the District Attorney's Office accused him of damaging a historic statue in downtown Portland.
According to court documents, police received photos of a vehicle used to topple over the President Theodore Roosevelt statue. Police say they identified Bartells as the driver of the vehicle.
The city of Portland, according to the DA's office, is reporting that damage to the statue is also estimated to cost $20,000 to repair.
Bartells is also a suspect in the toppling of the Abraham Lincoln statue, as well, but investigation is still ongoing in that case, the Multnomah County DA says. The Abraham Lincoln statue repair would cost approximately $10,000, the DA's office said.
PORTLAND, Ore. – Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced that Brandon Bartells is charged with damaging a historic statue in downtown Portland during a riot.
Bartells is accused of one count of criminal mischief in the first degree and one count of riot.
According to court documents, on Sunday night, police received photos of the suspect vehicle used to topple the statue of President Theodore Roosevelt. Police identified Bartells as the driver of the van.
When police stopped the van near the intersection of Southwest 2nd Avenue and Southwest Ash Street, they located Bartells in the driver’s seat and five other people inside, according to court documents.
During the investigation, law enforcement saw Bartells driving a van with chains and straps wrapped around the statue of President Roosevelt. Law enforcement saw Bartells drive the van forward which caused the Roosevelt statue to fall to the ground, according to court documents.
The City of Portland reported the damage to the Roosevelt statue will cost approximately $20,000 to repair and the damage to the Lincoln statue will cost approximately $10,000 to repair.
According to court documents, Bartells is a suspect in the toppling of President Lincoln’s statue but that investigation remains ongoing.
No additional information can be released by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office at this time.
A charging document is only an accusation of a crime. Bartells is innocent unless and until proven guilty.
And here's Malik who is from Indiana but apparently likes to attend violent protests, so came to Portland, he also likes break the windows of museums and shops and carry a loaded weapon:
PORTLAND, Ore. – Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced that Malik Fard Muhamad is charged after a riot unfolded in downtown on Sunday evening.
“It is sickening to me to see the destruction that occurred in Portland overnight. This violence and property destruction is without purpose and justification. My office remains committed to prosecuting individuals who commit these types of crimes so we can protect public safety,” said District Attorney Mike Schmidt.
Muhamad, from Indiana, is charged with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm, one count of possession of a loaded firearm in public, one count of criminal mischief in the first degree and one count of riot.
According to court documents, on October 11, 2020, law enforcement monitored an unlawful assembly which law enforcement later declared a riot. During that time, police reported a group of people had smashed out windows at the Oregon Historical Society, Portland State University, Starbucks, Bank of America and other local businesses. Law enforcement observed Muhamad as one of the individuals in the group wearing all black with a few small unique identifying details such as red and grey gloves and carrying a shield.
Muhamad is accused of using a metal baton to smash out the windows at the Oregon Historical Society, Portland State University, and other businesses.
When police attempted to arrest Muhamad, he ran from them, according to court documents. Officers observed Muhamad in possession of a firearm. Eventually, police caught up with Muhamad and took him into custody. During the arrest, police located a pistol behind some barrels Muhamad used to hide behind. They also located a loaded pistol magazine in Muhamad’s pocket. The pistol magazine matched the pistol located behind the barrels, according to court documents.
As of October 12, 2020, the Oregon Historical Society reports the damage to its property to be more than $20,000, according to court documents.
Detectives assigned to the Portland Police Bureau have since learned Muhamad has been living in Washington and for the past few months has attended multiple protests in which violence occurred, according to court documents.
No additional information can be released by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.
A charging document is only an accusation of a crime. Muhamad is innocent unless and until proven guilty.
In addition, we learn here that the police were drawn to the Historical Society neighborhood by report of gun shots, by someone into a closed cafe and by an 18-yr. old former juvie on parole....BUT THAT AN FBI AGENT in plainclothes in the crowd noticed Malik in particular
Portland police were readying for a “Day of Rage” that activists planned Sunday night in downtown when a shots-fired call across the river pulled officers away from the destructive demonstration, Police Chief Chuck Lovell said Monday.
By the time police declared a riot, people in a crowd of up to 300 had toppled two historic statutes on the South Park Blocks, thrown at least three flares inside the Oregon Historical Society lobby, fired shots into a closed cafe and smashed windows of the Portland State University campus public safety office.
Even after the civil unrest declaration, police didn’t move in and the vandalism continued, with some striking several downtown businesses. Officers eventually arrested several people, including one man accused of using a baton to break windows at the historical society and other buildings and another man accused of driving the van that pulled down the statue of Theodore Roosevelt.
“These events late at night they purport to have a racial justice nexus, but they’re not about that,” Lovell said. “They’re about violence and criminal destruction, and they’re really hurting our community and we all deserve better.”
While police had known days in advance about the potential for the Sunday demonstration to turn violent and were preparing for it, some officers had to be sent to Southeast Portland
around the same time to help find and arrest a man reported to have fired shots in a neighborhood, Lovell said.
The first call came in at 8:10 p.m. in the 2400 block of Southeast Powell Boulevard, but other calls followed about a man firing shots in the area. Police called for additional officers to respond, but many were working the protests downtown, Lovell said.
[....]
“This was all taking place as the violence was escalating downtown as well,” Lovell said.
The lack of immediate police intervention Sunday night in the city’s downtown stood in marked contrast to Saturday night’s quick arrests by officers of protesters huddled along Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Emerson Street, near the North Precinct. Some people in the crowd and civil rights activists criticized police for rushing in Saturday to make arrests with little warning or provocation.
“When shots are being fired, it impacts our ability to really move in and do crowd control,” Lovell said. “You have to be very careful when you know people are armed and firing weapons in that vicinity.”
Lovell said he’s relieved there were no major injuries. Police will continue to investigate to make additional arrests.
“What took place was extremely dangerous with a large number of people clearly intent on doing damage,” Lovell said.
[.....]
Malik Fard Muhamad, 23, an Indiana man who told court officials that he recently moved to Portland and was homeless, was among those arrested. He has attended other protests in Portland where violence has occurred, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
Muhamad is accused of using a metal baton to break out windows at the Oregon Historical Society, Portland State and other businesses, prosecutors said. Muhamad faces allegations of possessing a loaded gun in public, unlawful possession of a gun, first-degree criminal mischief and riot.
An FBI agent reported to Portland police that he was in the crowd in plainclothes and observed Muhamad strike out windows with a baton, according to court records. The agent told police Muhamad was wearing all black with red-and-gray gloves, carrying a shield and seen with a gun.
He ran when police tried to arrest him but they caught up to him and found a loaded 9mm pistol behind some barrels where he had been hiding, police and prosecutors said. Muhamad also had a loaded pistol magazine in his pocket, they said. In total, police recovered 30 9mm rounds, according to police.
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE. A real kicker. ABOUT BRANDON with the van accused of pulling down the statues. Brandon was being watched by Homeland Security. AND turns out BRANDON WAS ALSO IN KENOSHA for the Jacob Blake protests and was cited for breaking curfew there. Brandon really gets around to all the protests!
Police also arrested Brandon Bartells, 38, on accusations of damaging the Roosevelt statue. Bartells was found driving a white Sprinter van suspected of pulling down the statue with chains and straps, police and prosecutors said. A Homeland Security agent provided a Portland police detective with a photo of the van about 12:45 a.m. Monday. Officers stopped the van at Southwest Second Avenue and Ash Street. In addition to Bartells, five other people were inside, authorities said.
Bartells also is a suspect in the toppling of the Abraham Lincoln statue but hasn’t been charged, the prosecutor’s office said. The case remains under investigation.
Bartells told authorities he has been staying with friends for the last week and gave court officials a Northwest Portland address. He confirmed by phone that he also was “detained” with other protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in late August, accused of violating curfew. Bartells was one of more than 60 people cited and accused of violating a curfew that was in effect after protests erupted following the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old Black man.

Certainly doesn't surprise me, as there was plenty of this up the way in Seattle.
Look there's lots of boys out there of all political persuasions that just want to play with their toys.
And there's certainly not a shortage of guns in many low-income neighborhoods in Chicago.
And whether their little get togethers are called a "militia" or a "street gang", what's the diff in the end? Tribal no matter which.
It's boom time for anyone that can make ammunition. Sucks to be us, I don't see how we can go backwards from here for a long long time.

The only strong message that comes across to me from Portland is anti-cop in general, i.e., abolish police, and anti-liberal Dem style government (i.e., the mayor) which also appeals to right-wing libertarians like Boogaloo. It's really still the same chaotic concept as the diehard Occupy Wall Street gang and David Graeber et. al.
