For more than a decade I felt that the majority of the Saudi royals, as slimy as they might be in other ways, wanted to modernize their society along these lines. It's just that they were beholden to the Wahhabi clerics for their very existence, stuck in a devil's bargain. Good to see that they've finally got some spine. Gonna be a lot of outrage, because plenty of the people are brainwashed since birth, not going to be an easy transition to even to simple things like this.
