Trump SCOTUS going nowhere 2. One of the reasons *why* the Founders created a Supreme Court was to resolve interstate disputes (e.g., over borders, water rights, etc.).
Because lower courts might be biased, #SCOTUS was given "original" jurisdiction in such cases — allowing such suits to *start* there.
The denial delivers another blow to President Trump's efforts to score a victory in court that would block a state's certification of the vote. https://t.co/LW0zwbb1Rz
“On December 18, 2018, this Court accepted Mr. Flynn’s guilty plea a second time. Under oath, Mr. Flynn confirmed that his rights were not violated as a result of the circumstances of his January 24, 2017 FBI interview and the allegations of misconduct against FBI officials.” pic.twitter.com/n4r2LIUgX6
This is to be expected. How ever much they may have sucked up to Trump to get nominated once sworn in he no longer has any power over them. So what's in it for them to participate in a coup attempt?
The Supreme Court has rejected a Pennsylvania Republican congressman’s request to prevent Pennsylvania from certifying its presidential election results in favor of Joe Biden.
Texas initiated a long-shot lawsuit this morning in the Supreme Court to effectively undo the presidential election results in four states that voted for Joe Biden.
that one was filed by Rep. Mike Kelly et. al., vs. Pennsylvania et.al.
this one is filed by Texas's attorney general, representing Texas (v. who? I don't know.) Note this update to their linked blog post on it Update (Tuesday, Dec. 8, 6:20 p.m.): On Tuesday evening, the court called for a response to Texas’ suit by Thursday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m.
"SCOTUS will steal the election for Trump" is one of those takes that was popular (for different reasons) both among a certain type of liberal and on the Trumpy right and obviously doesn't look too good in retrospect.
Some folks love to always have the volume turned to 11. But to prevent future election-stealing, it would be better to think through which parts of the system have been more vulnerable and which have been more robust.
The judicial system has displayed a strong independent streak for upholding the rule of law throughout the post-election period. That's a big deal. There are various reasons to be worried about the future and I am worried to some degree. But it's a big deal.
SCOTUS is going to speak again shortly, a whole bunch of states have joined the Texas action, prominent and non-prominent people are betting on the outcome. I'm prone to think awwHALEnaw and especially John Meekison have the right bead on things here:
thank you Senator Cornyn. there is no legal theory and the conservative majority Supreme Court will reject it out of hand. https://t.co/3UTDsrlWyC
Ben Ginsberg quote in piece: The GOP "used to be a party for states' rights," Ginsberg said. "I can't imagine something that is less faithful to the principle of states' rights than a Texas attorney general trying to tell other states how to run their elections."
The Yankee Senator from CT is calling all 106 of the House GOP that signed the associated Amicus brief traitors:
They have betrayed their country. And while they can’t make Trump President, these radicals are setting us on a path to the end of democracy. It’s that serious. https://t.co/qlYqDVEMEj

I have been hoping this day would come for some time now but didn't want to jinx it by saying it out loud.

Maybe future presidents should be required to pass a civil service exam. Or even the GED.

What I really hate about gestures like this is that each of those signers would totally shit their pants if it worked.
