THREAD INCLUDES OTHER ABORTION NEWS - including THE VOTE IN KANSAS
Sens. Kaine, Murkowski, Sinema, and Collins have introduced the Reproductive Freedom For All Act.
The legislation would "enact in federal law the essential holdings of Roe v. Wade and related cases," protecting abortion rights and contraception access.
Don't know for sure if this guy knows what he's talking about but worth posting -
Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins have joined Kyrsten Sinema and Tim Kaine for a bipartisan bill to codify Roe v. Wade, which means the Senate has at least 51 votes to add abortion rights to any budget reconciliation bill as long as Chuck Schumer and Kamala Harris want to.
Securing the right to reproductive freedom for half of the country has a significantly positive impact on the national budget and we can pass multiple reconciliation bills a year. There's no reason why Democrats can't pull this off when they have 51 votes.
The Senate Parliamentarian is an unelected official who gets paid $172,500 a year to decide what we can pass via budget reconciliation, but they have no authority over Chuck Schumer or Kamala Harris, AND can be ignored any time, so yes, we can pass abortion rights with 51 votes. pic.twitter.com/ns6TqTscgZ
The first vote on abortion access since the US Supreme Court stripped away federal protection for the procedure is taking place in Kansas on Tuesday following a bitter campaign that has divided politicians, neighbours and even families https://t.co/iNlKgOu7hppic.twitter.com/exrRrSbc07

The proposed ‘Value Them Both’ amendment would overturn a 2019 ruling by the Kansas Supreme Court that found women had the right to make decisions about their bodies, including whether to terminate a pregnancy https://t.co/E0gq9vgPOEpic.twitter.com/9gigE8rzHS
Great news if the prochoice vote holds in Kansas -but this may be a red flag for people who think the SCOTUS Dobbs ruling will increase Dem midterm turnout / the chance Democrats hold Congress after 2022 elections- prochoice, Kansan republicans may have decreased that urgency.
If the result holds a very big deal. Not a huge surprise based on pre-election polls and Kansas is *slightly* less socially conservative than people assume. But still, confirms that the Dobbs decision was deeply unpopular and will motivate the midterm vote. https://t.co/KCMoJ5IbyF
We've now got 12 Kansas counties--almost all rural GOP--where the vote appears to be completely wrapped up, and 'yes' is running is a net-14 pts (using margin to avoid confusion) behind our benchmarks for a tied election in Kansas, based on abortion referendums elsewhere.
Reproductive rights is the best issue for the Democratic Party at the moment. For both moral and political reasons, we should elevate its salience as much as possible. https://t.co/s3tkqPbLUc
There’s no place like Kansas voters rallying to keep abortion access in place not only for the people in their own state, but for those coming in from other states where abortion is already banned, seeking access to care.
Indeed, if the GOP had a totally different position on abortion than the one it actually advances -- that it should be legal but only in the first trimester -- then abortion wouldn't be an electoral liability for the party. https://t.co/Fg1zf19T4g

In my many years of working in political data I can’t recall having seen voter registration deviate from the mean nearly as much as we’ve seen in Kansas since June 24th.
Among Kansans who registered to vote on or after June 24th (when the Dobbs decision was announced), Democrats have an 8 pt advantage. Compare that to the GOP's overall advantage of 19 pts among all registered voters in Kansas. The landscape changed on June 24th.
Oh, and perhaps more impressive (and problematic for the GOP): 70% of Kansans who registered to vote after the Dobbs decision was handed down on June 24th are women.

Eli Lilly and Co.—among Indiana’s largest employers—on the state’s new near-total abortion ban: “Given this new law, we will be forced to plan for more employment growth outside our home state.” pic.twitter.com/ArHSuw8mAf
Glad to see that Eli Lilly will be focusing its business growth outside the state of Indiana after Indiana passed a draconian anti-abortion bill. States that do this will quickly find themselves unable to attract top talent. https://t.co/xQ6sPjRSWO
Montana’s Supreme Court has upheld a lower court’s ruling that temporarily blocks further restrictions on abortion.
Planned Parenthood in a statement Tuesday announced that the Montana Supreme Court blocked three separate laws that were enacted during the state’s legislative session last year from taking effect.
One of the laws would have banned abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, while another would have created numerous barriers to medication abortion, and a third would have implemented a mandatory ultrasound offer and documentation requirement for those seeking an abortion.
A district court in September blocked those three laws from taking effect. Planned Parenthood’s Montana chapter filed the initial lawsuit challenging them.
“We are pleased that the Montana Supreme Court ruled today to uphold the preliminary injunction put in place by the District Court in the fall. This means that three anti-abortion laws remain unenforceable, including a 20-week ban,” Planned Parenthood of Montana’s chapter president and CEO, Martha Stahl, said in a statement.
“The Court upheld the Armstrong decision, which the State had requested be overturned, and abortion remains legal in Montana, protected by our constitutional right to privacy. This is a victory for our right to make personal medical decisions, free from the interference of government,” Stahl added. [....]
