Live• Members of Congress and staff told to 'shelter in place'
• US Capitol placed on security lockdown after shots fired
• One police officer reported to have been injured
• Incident on day three of government shutdown
• Read the latest blog summary
but it appears,
The US capitol police chief, Kim Dine, holds a news conference to describe what happened, confirming details of what was earlier reported. He said:
A vehicle in the vicinity of the White House apparently tried to pass a barricade.
Shots were potentially fired. [Officers] pursued the vehicle. The vehicle struck one of our vehicles... and ultimately ended up at 2nd and Maryland Avenue NE, where it crashed into one of our barricades.
We have no information that this is related to terrorism or is anything other than an isolated incident.
Dine says he believes that there was a child in the car. But he does not know the condition of the driver.
He confirms that an office was injured, but not by gunfire:
One of our officers was struck in his staff car. He appears to be conscious and breathing. As far as we know, no officer was shot.
It's a good thing, the woman had no others in the back seat, or the cops might have killed them too. Maybe this is what desperation looks like? Congress members can feel safer in their feathered beds knowing; a victim of their actions, has been dealt with.
What else can one expect from disharmony?

Just as an aside, that latter quote did not sound like something Isaac Newton would have said (it just sounded anachronistic), so I did a little digging, and it appears to be falsely attributed to him. It was actually written by Joseph Fort Newton in 1948. Still a good quote, though.
Authorities investigating why a Connecticut woman rammed barricades and led police on a chase near the U.S. Capitol found medications in her apartment to treat schizophrenia and other mental disorders, a law enforcement source briefed on the investigation said Friday. [....]
Authorities who searched the apartment in Stamford, Connecticut, found one medication to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and another that is an antidepressant, according to the source.Authorities who searched the apartment in Stamford, Connecticut, found one medication to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and another that is an antidepressant, according to the source.
Carey's boyfriend contacted police in December saying he feared for the safety of their child, who was 4 months old at the time, according to a law enforcement source involved in the investigation. The boyfriend said the woman was acting delusional, claiming the president had placed Stamford under lockdown and that her house was under electronic surveillance, the source said.
He told police that she was suffering from post-partum depression, was having trouble sleeping and was on medication. Carey underwent a mental health evaluation, said the source, who added that the boyfriend has been questioned by federal authorities about Thursday's events.
The source told CNN that Carey left a letter addressed to the boyfriend at her apartment and that it appeared to contain white powder. The letter was being tested for hazardous substances.[.....]
Also John Miller at CBS got a tip that she had a head injury in 2012 that may have affected her:
[....] CBS News' John Miller, a former FBI assistant director, reports that the people who worked with Carey said she was upbeat, happy and normal, but in April 2012 she fell on some stairs and injured her head.
When Carey was receiving treatment for the injury in the hospital, she learned that she was pregnant.
Carey received a handicapped parking permit because of the injury, Miller reports. Then doctors from the medical suite where she worked complained that she was tying up parking in front of the building and asked her to move her car back. This became a big dispute that led to her being fired.
From then on, police interviewing people in and around her life say that she was suffering from other emotional issues that came to the attention of the police in Stamford, Miller reports. [....]
Kevin Morano said he lives two doors down from the suspect and said he only knew that Carey was a dental hygienist and that she drove fast in a black Infiniti and a white BMW.
"I know one thing; she always drove too fast," Morano said.
An aside. Something that puzzles me after reading a lot of reporting about her. Maybe I am just ignorant of how much dental hygienists are paid. But how does a single mom dental hygienist who has also been purported to have run employment service for dental workers from home, who was fired from a previous job in the recent past, and who has been in and out of the hospital for various things besides recently having a baby, afford this:
Washington -- Authorities searching the home of a Connecticut woman who rammed barricades and led police on a chase near the U.S. Capitol found discharge papers from a 2012 mental health evaluation that listed prescriptions to treat schizophrenia and other mental disorders, a law enforcement source briefed on the investigation said Friday.
The woman, identified by law enforcement sources as Miriam Carey, 34, died after police shot her.
Earlier, sources said investigators found medications, but that proved later not to be accurate.
Carey's boyfriend told police in December that she appeared to be delusional, believing that President Barack Obama had placed Stamford, Connecticut, where they lived, under lockdown and that her home was under electronic surveillance, a law enforcement source involved in the investigation said [....]
It is troubling that apparently this unstable and unarmed woman was executed after having been stopped and blocked from causing further damage with her car. The reports I have read are fixated on her mental state and some people seem to be interested in her finances but the important question is, should she have died in a hail of bullets for this "crime"?

There are such things as 'car bombs', the object is to crash into an area, like the White House, or Capitol buildings, and blow it up.
A dead or disabled driver of a VBIED (vehicle borne improvised explosive device) can't pull the trigger on the bomb, if there is one, which can only be determined later when the vehicle is examined by explosive ordnance experts.
Is this comment an excuse for the execution or a macabre joke?

Now it's an execution? Who is joking?
IED's VBIEDs are a weapon, not a joke.
Thousands of Americans have been killed or wounded by them overseas, and it would be a macabre joke if SS agents at the White House were not aware of their possible use here.

Passersby on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., ripped off their shirts to help extinguish the flames after a man apparently tried to set himself on fire Friday, witnesses and authorities said.
Washington D.C. Fire spokesman Tim Wilson told NBC News the unidentified man was suffering from life threatening injuries when he was flown by helicopter to Washington Medical Center.
The incident, which was reported at 4:24 p.m. ET, occurred on Seventh Street Southwest near the National Air and Space Museum, U.S. Park Police said.
Witnesses told several media organizations, including NBC Washington, that they saw the man pour gasoline on himself from a red canister and then set himself ablaze. Police said a red fuel container was found near where the incident happened, Reuters reported.
Nearby joggers stopped and ripped off their shirts to smother the flames, NBC Washington reported. A fire department spokesman said the man's injuries were life-threatening, The Associated Press reported [....]

Also too, now that we know that the only gunshots were by the cops firing at a wild woman driver, I'm fully expecting one Saudi Arabian Sheikh to use it proof of the sanity of his opinion.

I assume the Saudi would point to this as evidence that WOMEN SHOULD NOT DRIVE!

She was a black (?) dental hygienist from Connecticut with mental health issues.

I heard nothing of race at MSNBC; I did take a nap!
This is a tragedy in all respects.
From what I saw, the cops did their job.
The baby is unharmed.

Purported to have had delusions that included the president; this may be in Stamford police records:
