I remember hearing about xenophobic nationalists still in Japan when I took a course on the country in college, although without the teeth of the WW2 nationalists.
Just curious how they differ from xenophobic nationalists anywhere else (and how fits in with nationalist trends the last 20 years everywhere - for example Chinese locking up 1 million Uyghurs, India electing Modi to propagate ultra-Hinduism, rise of rightists in Hungary and Italy, Saudis turn to a rather fascist regional power monger, Putin killing people who diaagree with him and pushing a religious-history-nostalgic version of the great empire, the Philippines new hardcore Duterte state, etc.
