Neither Gosar nor Brooks responded to inquiries from The Intercept. Brooks, after the event, sought to legitimize political violence in a radio interview. Alexander did not respond to a text or phone call; his voicemail was full. Alexander, who adopted a new name after pleading guilty to felony property theft in 2007 and felony credit card abuse in 2008, has been suspended from Twitter and other platforms for his role in organizing the January 6 event. As the Daily Beast reported, he has said he has been unfairly blamed for the violence on January 6, and has gone underground.
Also of interest here is a great example of an important side issue of freedom of speech. That in taking down accounts from social media, the public is denied access to incriminating information and basically then to history itself.. In this Intercept article, there is a retweet by Jason Paladino of a tweet of a video by Alexander, and Paladino adds a second tweet in case he takes the video down, here's the relevant section
And that video and tweet is indeed now gone.
It's often noted that our freedom of speech differs from other nations where hate speech is banned precisely because if hate speech is banned then it just goes "underground" and public approval or disapproval is not evident to all It's a gnarly issue about freedom of speech: is it better for the common good for eveyone to see the incitement and/or hate,or must the general populace be protected from it by gatekeepers because they are like children who cannot control themselves and therefore cannot handle seeing it?
1. Ali Alexander, who is the leader of "Stop The Steal" and one of the organizers of the insurrection, has had his Twitter account permanently suspended.
Alexander said yesterday that his PayPal and Venmo accounts were shut down as well. pic.twitter.com/F50cc6BSN3
Proof that it was not just organized agitators but simply deluded fans believing Trump that the election was being stolen from them and they had a right to challenge and protest what was going on:
Very telling video of rioters outside the Capitol shouting at police: "We were invited here. We were invited by the president of the United States" pic.twitter.com/Ctt5M1ijoA
3/ In addition to the men listed in Tweet #1, the following men are also relevant to this account:
▪️ Ali Alexander, far-right activist
▪️ Roger Stone, friend and advisor to the president
▪️ Paul Manafort, former Trump campaign manager
▪️ Donald Trump Jr., son of the president
