No no warning, no explanation. With previous fenestrations, there have been weeks of leaks and bitter tweets before the coup de grace. Weird.
People are tweeting about how it happened the day after Tillerson publicly blamed Russia for the assassination attempt in the UK. If that's the reason, it's scary as hell. How far into Putin's butt has Trump burrowed?
The torture of detainees in U.S. custody during the last decade was one of the darkest chapters in American history. The Senate must do its job in scrutinizing the record & involvement of Gina Haspel in this disgraceful program. https://t.co/p2eZfMDF5N
Mr. Trump answered questions about the shake-up on the South Lawn of the White House, before departing on Marine One. The following is a transcript of those remarks, prepared by The New York Times.

REPORTER: Did you fire him because he called you a moron?
MR. TRUMP: What?
REPORTER: Did you fire him because he called you a moron?
MR. TRUMP: Say it again.
REPORTER: (inaudible) Why now?
MR. TRUMP: I respect his intellect. I respect the process that we’ve all gone through together. We have a very good relationship. For whatever reason, chemistry, whatever it is. Why do people get along? I’ve always right from the beginning from day one, I’ve gotten along well with Mike Pompeo.
And frankly I get along well with Rex, too. And, you know, I wish Rex a lot of good things. I think he’s going to do — I think he’s going to be very happy. I think Rex will be much happier now. But I really appreciate his service.
But with Mike, we’ve had a very good chemistry right from the beginning.
REPORTER: (inaudible)
MR. TRUMP: Well, it sounds to me. I’m speaking to Theresa May today. It sounds to me like it would be Russia based on all of the evidence they have. I don’t know if they’ve come to a conclusion. But she’s calling me today.
As you know, now we’re going to the wall. We’re going out to the wall. We’re going to be looking at the prototypes, which is very important for our country. But Theresa May is going to be speaking to me today. It sounds to me like they believe it was Russia, and I would certainly take that finding as fact.
REPORTER: Mr. President, do you believe there should be a response from the United States?
MR. TRUMP: As soon as we get the facts straight. And we’re going to be speaking with the British today. We’re speaking with Theresa May today. As soon as we get the facts straight, if we agree with them, we will condemn Russia or whoever it may be. But I have not spoken to her. I’ll speak to her some time today.
Sorry, Rex. You're a nice person. I respect your intellect, and we get along great. There's just no chemistry, you know? Not like Mike, I just really click with him. You have to admit, it's better for both of us this way. I'm sure you'll find someone else really special!
That's why I'm publicly dumping you on Twitter with no warning after a year-long relationship. Have a nice life! MAGA!!!
Mr. Tillerson learned he had been fired on Tuesday morning when a top aide showed him a tweet from Mr. Trump announcing the change, according to a senior State Department official. But he had gotten an oblique warning of what was coming the previous Friday from the White House chief of staff, John F. Kelly, who called to tell him to cut short a trip to Africa and advised him “you may get a tweet.”
he's on now, shocked me that he made it a point to mention he hoped dealing with problems of sexual harassment @ State would continue! Very professional so far, and very respectful and caring of the department "troops", I am impressed, humble and thankful, quite different from the depiction of him in much media and from the many who left in disgust. Makes me wonder how much of the chaos there was due to Trump admin pressure.
I'm waiting for the one of these scorned officials to drop the pretense of normalcy and go Howard Beale on Trump and his insane administration. But who will it be?

Washington (CNN)Hours after his boss, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, was ousted Steve Goldstein, the under secretary of public affairs at the State Department has been fired by the White House.
Goldstein publicly contradicted the White House account of how Tillerson was fired on Tuesday morning.
Goldstein said Tillerson was officially notified he'd been fired from a tweet from President Donald Trump on Tuesday morning, and in a statement, said Tillerson had "every intention of remaining."
A senior administration official said Trump asked Tillerson to step aside on Friday and a senior White House official later clarified that chief of staff John Kelly told Tillerson that he would be replaced, but did not specify the timing. [.....]
"This has been an honor of a lifetime and I'm grateful to the secretary and the President for this opportunity. I wish everyone well and look forward to getting more rest and perhaps winning an indoor rowing competition. We will see what happened next," Goldstein said in statement to CNN.
As undersecretary for public diplomacy and public affairs, Goldstein was the fourth highest ranking official at the State Department. He was sworn in on December 4.
With Goldstein gone, the State Department has only one permanent undersecretary in place out of six. The other, Undersecretary for Political Affairs Tom Shannon, plans to retire when his successor is confirmed. Two additional nominees are pending approval by the senate [....]
GOP leaders will now have to wrestle Trump’s nominees through a polarized Senate, rather than focus on their own priorities.

....There was no heads-up from the White House that Tillerson’s ouster was coming. Senior Republicans thought Trump and Tillerson had achieved a decent working relationship in recent months, although there was clearly no love for the former Exxon CEO coming from the Oval Office....
Oh, please. They were "stunned"? Was anyone here stunned? If the GOP leaders were, they have been paying even less attention than I thought possible. At best, the timing mildly surprised them.
Tillerson survived calling Trump a "fucking moron" but a day after he criticizes Russia for using a nerve agent to try and kill someone in Salisbury, England, he gets canned. https://t.co/PZkTyd5ixf

He was always the Manchurian candidate - why such a surprise now? Criticism of Putin has never been allowed.

I ran across this real interesting related March 4 piece in the wee hours last night; the LATimes' White House guy reporting that Mattis was Tillerson's partner in throttling Trump's desires, that they worked in tandem to "slow roll" Trump's requests for other options on the big issues, meanwhile the supposed genius-in-chief manager would blame McMaster! Hah!
