President Trump said the United States and Mexico had agreed to revise key portions of the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement and would finalize it within days.
The president's apparent willingness to move on without Canada raised concern among lawmakers and businesses.
Photo of President Trump in the Oval Office after speaking with the President of Mexico, tweeted by CNN reporter Rebecca Berg which was retweeted by Maggie Haberman, so the two of them are obviously seeing something special enough about it to share it with their followers:
This literally never happens, that the OTR portions of these interviews leaks. Most people close to White House have raised possibility that Trump ordered it put out. https://t.co/tDHFpsT6KK
Kind of a switch from how you described the reporting during that interview. And neither of those reporters would ever commit that kind of violation. https://t.co/tDHFpsT6KK
more White House reporter direct pushback on that Trump tweet:
Zero percent chance Jen or Margaret broke an off the record. Either came from a WH official or from a screw up in Bloomberg’s internal handling of their interview transcript. https://t.co/QrIvNWYK8q
Maggie's right that this almost never happens, but it has happened once before: when the WSJ wouldn't release a transcript of its Trump interview last year, Politico published the whole thing, off-record parts included: https://t.co/gbJw4e8CRMhttps://t.co/kUlzbQ6y3V
The Trump administration said that it intends to enter into a revised North American Free Trade Agreement with Mexico and will continue working to keep Canada in the pact.
While sticking points remain, the United States and Canada agreed to negotiate beyond the Friday deadline, and Congress is unlikely to object.
