WASHINGTON – The Vatican has launched a crackdown on the umbrella group that represents most of America's 55,000 Catholic nuns, saying that the group was not speaking out strongly enough against gay marriage, abortion and women's ordination.
Rome also chided the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) for sponsoring conferences that featured "a prevalence of certain radical feminist themes incompatible with the Catholic faith."
The Vatican's disciplinary action against the LCWR was announced on Wednesday, one day before Pope Benedict XVI marked seven years as pontiff.
In many ways, the Vatican's actions against the LCWR encapsulated the kind of hard line that many expected Benedict — the Vatican's former doctrinal czar — to take when he was elected in 2005.
The fun part is that the Vatican is angry at them for not being doctrinaire enough AND not bringing in enough recruits. It's true that they don't bring in enough recruits; the orders are dying out in this country. But ordering them to be more hard-line and win over more young Americans at the same time ...
Yes, if only those nuns would stop encouraging actual pride at Gay Pride parades and get back to the shame-based fundamentals like "Pray Away the Gay," it would all be different, and the young, er, people would come flocking in droves!
It must really bug Church leaders to see Michele Bachmann cornering the US market on the gullible and closeted, while their own wretchedly-paid female employees fritter away their time on silly things like actual public health outcomes and the greater good.
BTW, Doc, your Supply-Side Jesus was one of the best I've ever read on its subject.
Them wimmins are devils, that's all there is to it! These days the Vatican (having learned their lesson with Galileo) realizes that that is due to hormonal differences and not their progenitor eating a certain apple, but that doesn't mean they aren't still devils who need a short leash.

Ron Paul, of course. In some circles he's an adequate substitute for Jesus.

I saw this and I thought I might do a blog.
I may incorporate something later; I don't know.
I just see these wonderful women, wonderful wonderful women no matter what the late Hitchens said about them attempting to do right!
And so we end up with a man in a dress with an Egyptian hat (from the old olden days) assigned to tell them what is right!
WTF?
I am enraged.
So, what's new?
hahahahah
