MURDER, POLITICS, AND THE END OF THE JAZZ AGE
by Michael Wolraich
By Gary Taubes, New York Times guest Op-Ed, June 30/July 1, 2012
Gary Taubes is the author of “Why We Get Fat." (2010) "Good Calories, Bad Calories"(2007), and "The Diet Delusion" (2008) as well as being known for writing on other topics in the science field.
Here, as the Times' blurb summarizes, he is writing on:
A new study suggests carbs, not calories, make us gain weight.
This last week I noticed the following article stay on the Times' "most popular" lists for quite some time, by their famous food writer with many foodie fans, Mark Bittman:
Which Diet Works? (June 26)
That article also refers to this new study and has helpful layman explanations.
To anyone interested in this topic, I can't recommend reading both articles enough.
SPOILER ALERT: Dr. Atkins' rep has gone up more than a notch; he was onto something important and didn't deserve all the nasties the CW medical profession heaped on him. Not every body is the same, but some of the principles he was going on are very important in understanding obesity problems.
