Whelan's history is apparently problematic:

Note he's not a nobody - that's him, not a fake, followed by a lot of the right people, link to his website, member since 2008. photo has physical resemblance.

I go back to Biden's statement on it, who seems to have the right attitude; as I said, sounds like this case is a little more complicated than Brittney and it's probably not helpful to the situation to publicly say why, whatever that is.

and hey, guess what, I see from WaPo that it's not a skin color nor political competition, the families support one another as Americans in trouble, go figure:
