Georgia GOP Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan says Herschel Walker will 'probably go down as one of the worst candidates in our party's history' https://t.co/1sBB6NW8ip
Kevin McCarthy looked all set up to cruise into a new role as Speaker of the House. Now, with a narrow House majority, the path is much more treacherous. Nightly reports https://t.co/ygdvZtTUoO
Trump jumping into the House GOP fight for Speakership after reports in @politico and elsewhere that retiring Republican Rep. Fred Upton could be floated as a moderate compromise to derail Kevin McCarthy’s expected win
The funniest part is that it is all an act. Earlier tapes from his life show this former Rhodes scholar speaking in a neutral middle-American accent. Apparently he now identifies fully as Foghorn Leghorn. https://t.co/108HC512vQ
High school valedictorian, BA with magma cum laude at Vanderbilt, JD and Order of the Coif from Virginia, law degree with First Class Honours from Magdalen College at Oxford, and the most cynical Foghorn Leghorn impersonation mankind has ever seen. https://t.co/6xiV06PXf5
A reminder that @SenJohnKennedy is a total and complete fraud. He’s a wealthy elitist with a degree from Oxford. He plays “Foghorn Leghorn” for the hometown crowd. In doing so, he both mocks and belittles them. https://t.co/wiy2Rckj8r

McConnell on Trump’s remarks that the Constitution should be terminated: “Anyone seeking the presidency who thinks that the constitution should somehow be suspended or not followed seems to me would have a very hard time being sworn in as the President of the United States.”
No opinion on GOP primary odds I do think a lot of liberals are underestimating the wave of positive media sentiment that will be directed at DeSantis if he dethrones Trump.
Critically important to develop the policy argument sooner rather than later. https://t.co/B8UylPqR7Z
Like it’s genuinely great that DeSantis is harder-working and less of a loose-cannon bozo, but if he directs his work ethic to the causes he’s voted for — privatizing Medicare, deregulating health insurance, cutting Medicaid — that’s actually very bad. https://t.co/eRjmnYzqD9
Also it will set off a big internecine fight among liberals, many of whom will be less Resistance-y to him than Trump and will be constantly shamed and hectored for that by liberals who are like “he’s just as bad!”
Houston Police Dept told Eyewitness News that it responded to reports of a 14-year-old with self-inflicted stab wounds on the arms at 7:44 p.m. in the 3000 block of Ella Lee Lane, which is just off Kirby Drive. This is Ted Cruz's home. https://t.co/JNAUL1LFYe

UPDATE: A spokesperson from Texas Senator Ted Cruz’s office says, “This is a family matter, and thankfully their daughter is okay. There were no serious injuries. The family requests that the media respect their daughter’s privacy at this time.”
One thing Republicans need to understand: the new(ish) coalition of simply swapping rural working class for suburban Rs works on paper. Hell it works in presidentials. The turnout discrepancy in midterms is significant. Need to either fix rural midterm turnout or mix the appeal.
Everyone will focus on margins. Yes that is important. Not nearly as important as raw vote in your strongholds statewide. If you’re getting 55% turnout in big margin counties and losing big margins with historically consistent 65%+ turnout you have a recipe for tough midterms.
Rural vs suburban is NOT a mutually exclusive appeal. Brian Kemp did it in GA. Ron Desantis did it to historically significant margins in FL. Anyone who tells you Republicans need to excise one part of a coalition for another is prescribing a destiny of losing for generations
I give the Walker team a lot of credit for hanging in there when the world was raining down upon them. Kemp team was incredible throughout. This would not be a close election without people killing themselves to try to get it done.
Rs need honest evaluation of party’s problems. Not taking points that rile up loud voices. Nothing is unfixable but this is not a winning product from an infrastructure standpoint.
No state has done more to kill Trumpism while preserving actual conservatism than Georgia. Saying no to Herschel Walker and yes to Brian Kemp and Brad Raffesnperger shows the GOP the path forward, if it’s wise enough to take it.
The Roe vs Wade fumble by the Republicans will go down in history.
Inflation. Stock market in shambles. Natural tendency of voters to support the opposing party of the president. All fumbled. Truly spectacular L. https://t.co/TwmEkiwf3v
.@newtgingrich on prospects of a disastrous 2024 cycle:
“I can imagine a Trump-anti-Trump war over the next two years that just guarantees Biden’s re-election in a landslide and guarantees that Dems control everything.”
The feud between white nationalist Nick Fuentes and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is heating up, with Fuentes calling the congresswoman "Large Marge" and encouraging his followers to heckle her at events.
Folks, Nick Fuentes is trolling Marjorie Taylor Greene. He calls her "Large Marge, and is encouraging his followers to heckle her at events. I hope they take each other down.

Unless he reinvents himself as someone given up on the big lie - along the lines of the classic 'anything is possible' - and he's far from doing that yet. As are many others - and Liz has a question about that -
Another sign Herschel wasntfit to represent the GOP - he gave a lovely speech accepting defeat. If he'd been this smooth and calm and stayed away from weird crack it topics, would he have lost the Republican whcko base early? Up is down.
ALERT: Senators Sinema and Tillis are trying to pass a calamitous lame duck border-erasing amnesty bill before the new GOP-led House is sworn into office. Watch this Tucker interview to understand what is stake — and what is motivating this dreadful legislative atrocity. pic.twitter.com/hgD7SaSFJ1
Every media member needs to not let @GOPLeader McCarthy, or @EliseStefanik answer anything else until they address this comment. They are trying to stay quiet until the leadership vote.
Google Trends doesn't seem to back this up - more Trump interest this summer than anytime except huge spike at election (similar spikes for Sept before election & impeachment, another peak period around Jan 5-11, 2020, why I don't know - was still pre-Covid etc.) donald trump - Prozkoumat - Trendy Google
Huh but that was this summer and it's almost Christmas!!! I just saw a similar graph showing interest in him dropping like a rock, it did compare the interest in Taylor Swift dropping too (he was down at the ground with Taylor after the ticket story went away) probably went with this story;
“In terms of Google’s search index, Trump’s announcement was a tad more interesting than the mad rush for Taylor Swift tickets and much less grabby than a big soccer tournament.”
YUP that graph is there - it just won't let me copy it -
Google search volume for Donald Trump
The Google search interest index reflects a relative volume of searches. The 100 value represents Trump's highest volume. Every other value is relative to that moment.
shows interest in him dropping to basically the same level he was at in 2015 by April 2021 and a teeny tiny bump here and there but not much interest in his announcement.
There's other graphs and data too, like on TV coverage (a reminder - Murdoch Inc. has totally turned on him.)
P.S. and the 538 numbers - 55.4% unfavorable and 40.1% favorable - have little to do with what's being brought up here by Mary Trump, media and other politicians - that he can't get any attention and that's driving him nuts. Attention is the main thing he cares about, actually he cares about little else. RATINGS from day one, hours arguing about the size of his inauguration crowd. THE POINT: if he doesn't get more attention soon....
Which reminds me of interviews I saw with Trump voters like when he had been president for a while but before covid. They all said they were happy with the results EXCEPT THEY ALL WISHED HE WOULD STAY OFF TWITTER. Very few like that side of him, it's real tiresome to see a president attacking like Rosie O'Donnell. And that's exactly what he craves the most.
Yes, he had marginally little interest between Jan 6 and this past July - 1 1/2 years.
A few bigger blips around his Sept statement and the Nov election.
But he's still been in the game with the Republicans most of that time, still the default leader.
Only in the last couple months is that fading. So i'm not really sure what his neice is saying.
More I see he's had devastating losses re: taxes, Trump Corp, Mar a Lago confidential docs, the candidates he backed, getting owned by Milo & Fuentes, etc. Now, that may make him dangerous, but his levers for levying revenge seem distinctively weakened. He can play tattletale on all his GOP buds, which would thrill me. What he does to the government itself or Dems or the nation, I really don't know. And I do take Trump more seriously than many - I just don't see him able to say summon Saudi Arabia or Russia to help him out that easily - more and more he's damaged goods.
interesting to me - the twisted take of "Ultra MAGA Travis", a new account at Twitter - he's promoting what is actually the result of narcissistic media whoring as a political feature, not a bug:
Yep - just like Trump took up all the oxygen in 2015/6 and following, it's everything Elon the past 2 months. Tho we'll see if he can sustain as long as the master. I'd guess he'll peter out before long - he's not really coming up with his own wacko views to bend his followers - he's largely echoing the top rightwing complaints - while Trump was always breathtakingly original.
Sen @BenSasse on Trump’s comments RE: terminating the Constitution: “Well, obviously nobody's terminating the Constitution. What's going on here is a clown is trying to sell tickets to his circus.”
Sen SASSE: “We believe in the rule of law, not the rule of men, and he makes stuff up and then he goes out and says, ‘How do I get people to sell popcorn at my circus?’ I don't I don't think he believes anything. I think he just wants attention…”
McConnell probably has the votes to pass the omnibus, but enthusiasm is low. Many want to kick it to next year
“If my leader does ram it through and can’t explain why we can get a better deal doing it that way rather than waiting? He’ll be criticized," says Sen. Kennedy.
“I’m so disgusted by the fact that we’re here again,” said Sen. Cramer, who is undecided. “My concern is that a new House, very small majority, new leadership, is going to have to take over, and to have to start from behind? … That could have negative consequences.”
“Favorable views of Mr. Trump were the lowest recorded in Journal polling dating to November 2021 and have been pulled down by a decline in positive feelings among Republicans.”
“The WSJ poll shows that those who are very conservative favor Trump over DeSantis, 54% to 38%, while those who say they are just somewhat conservative back DeSantis over Trump, 59% to 29%. More moderate GOP primary voters overwhelmingly favor DeSantis”
Unless it's a fake out, and #Trump actually has a #MajorAnnouncement later today, I'm officially jumping off the Trump train. This is embarrassing. Definitely not a major announcement for the leader of the free world. What a hoopel. I hate to say it but this says #TrumpIsDonepic.twitter.com/3OQEu8Nv2t
Nah, you don't get it. Trumpism is what his followers want. No more wars, a booming economy, constitutionalist judges... We still believe in that. But nowadays, Trump just wants to talk about Trump. Fuck that.
Russia is no closer to capturing Ukraine than it was 297 days ago. @AmbJohnBolton believes things could have been different, for the worse. “If Donald Trump were still President the Russians would be in Kyiv already.” #velshihttps://t.co/o6qW7mrEFP
But the main attraction, obviously, was Trump. He received a standing ovation after delivering an enthusiastic affirmation of gay rights not often heard in the GOP. https://t.co/28PaWiKSFB
