White votes for Democrats have been in the 40s since 1964. In 1964, the GOP ran Goldwater, another man who had support from white supremacists. Goldwater only got 41% of the white vote and only 6% of the mostly black non-white vote at the time. It will be interesting to see how the white vote is cast in November 2016.
Yep, my guess is it doesnt take that much attention on matters of concern to bring many back into the tent. Issues like black lives matter aren't win-lose for whites, but issues like wage equality while better than for blacks is still a decades-old problem for whites as well.
