A team of researchers looked at media coverage the past few decades and came away with results that lead to a startling conclusion: as prejudice in America went down, coverage of prejudice went way up. Why is everything suddenly racist? https://t.co/mNFtvrLhDg
The state of Oregon has established new standards for kindergarten that include asking children to examine racial differences between themselves and their classmates. Kindergartners. https://t.co/DgQwX7tPOD
It really doesn't matter what you want to call it, 1.) public education should not be this political, 2.) the mainstreaming of the view that teachers have a moral mandate to expose very young kids to hyper-partisan takes on current events is the problem https://t.co/cXqtXt5mC9
Public schools teachers are employees of the state and in turn servants of the public; their mandate is the transmission of skills required to function as citizens in a democratic republic and workers in a modern economy
Public education doesn't seem "political" when the curriculum coheres with the agreed-upon state ideology. We're going through a crisis of what that ideology should be. Once that's settled, public ed will go back to not seeming "political."
that you might have been falling for a crock of shit faux narrative that police abuse problems are the same thing as systemic racism or even have much to do with racism at all!
consider these alternatives:
it's socio economic (class), i.e. bad neighborhoods often have bad or corrupt policing, espec. those with poor tax bases
young black males are frequent victims PRECISELY BECAUSE they are also highly common prepatrators of violent crime and therefore are unfortunately but correctly PROFILED! I mean reallly WTF what kind of police work do you expect that will not include physical profiling, that's just delusional pretend nonsense that that does not happen, we actually hope police are not looking for someone 6'5" when the perp was under 5"4"....some things are unfair, life sucks and then you die, grow up, really
I remember when the Alt Right first started being covered by the media. They were justly described as largely white people who were shaken by a loss of power status in an America that had elected a black presiden and in which liberalism was ascending, etc. Donald Trump represented their attempt at revenge.
Fast forward to 2021 and you have a whole bunch of old white liberals whose grasp on power is precarious. Joe Biden has Kamala Harris behind him and Gavin Newsom has a black conservative making a serious challenge at him. Andrew Cuomo is being challenged by women who worked for him, after publicly lauding women who "spoke out." (Cuomo's accusers are also being cheered on by conservatives who hope that it will take down Biden, as well.) It's like that power dynamic is all over the place and not simply one that affected backward white conservatives.
Kamala Harris herself is wickedly unpopular, so we have moved past the point of simply having people of color in power and in to having unpopular people of color in power. We asked for social progress and we got it.
That likely plays in to why people see racism everywhere. We are looking for dog whistles from everyone, instead of just one half of the population. Actual racism of the KKK variety might be in short supply, but racial status anxiety is not in short supply at all.
The national conversations about race and crime are wildly different than they were a century ago, significantly different than they were 50 years ago, quite different from what they were in the 90s, and distinct from even the aughts and early 2010s. https://t.co/VASbsvatpi
there's this young fella on Twitter, appears Afro-American (but never really says one way or another precisely because he's not into the whole identity group thing,) already tried a run for office as a Dem in GA, gaining popularity all the time (25K followers now) among other tweets today retweeted this:
old civil rights warrior gobsmacked by segregation being re-promoted by Atlanta schools:
As an old white man who, with his wife, was involved in opposing legal and de facto segregation in the late 1960s, I continue to be gobsmacked by these incidents. Kudos to this brave mother. https://t.co/XcKbQo86Wf
Good for him and I am increasingly encouraged to speak out against the new racism of The Woke variety. as well. There is really no excuse for much of it, it's the result of a total delusionary time and bullshit grifters like Kendi and DiAngelo taking advantage of that. (Consider how you will feel about your own silence on this matter on your deathbed! There are just certain times in history where silencein the face of lunacy is a very bad thing.)
no thanks; he'll stay in France and raise his kids where they are not expected to be dummies needing mulligans because of the color of their skin
This perfectly illustrates the kind of debilitating prejudice I wish to avoid when I say I am no longer participating in the all-American game of race. I don’t want anyone to ever think they can ever target me or my children with this kind of patronizing soft bigotry. https://t.co/mDIjn8K03F

more on the demeaningly soft racist Oregon education plan making their high school diplomas worthless:
Governor of Oregon signs bill into law removing requirement that HS graduates show they can read, write and do math at a high school level, declines to comment on the decision to the press https://t.co/iY0QMtJVpP
Some people are willing to act in accord but reluctant to mouth the words that justify the acts...what holds them back from mouthing the words? What makes them willing to act?
When pressed by the Oregonian, Charles Boyle, the governor’s deputy communications director, replied in an email statement that the bill will benefit “Oregon’s Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Tribal, and students of colour.”

Indeed. I always thought that education helps, apparently not in Oregon.

Makes a lot of sense! Especially as things really started to ramp up with panic over the shock election of President Narcissist:
When yall say black women are the most disrespected group of ppl you're right because nobody disrespects black women more than black women. I follow plenty non black women and they never even mention black women lmao
— Try Not to @ Me or Quote Me (@veetocorleone) August 17, 2021
That's the narcissism I mention often.
No one is investing that much time in worrying about anyone else.

I find a lot of "racism hysteria" really narcissistic.
People are rude. It's not specific to you or your race.
It's not as if white people are invested in helping other white people get ahead.
These people never watched a soap opera before?

Methinks it is wise to remember his name more than this that or another grievance

If we didn't have this damn systemic racism in this country, surely she'd be a trillionaire by now
Oh wait, oops, I see she's of Carribean heritage! Like with Colin Powell they're not *really* capital B Black?
