To me what's remarkable is how easy it would be for a smart, ambitious Democratic Party politician (I would nominate Kamala Harris) to get on the right side of public opinion while making zero policy concessions by saying something like this.https://t.co/My5mzgt3TWpic.twitter.com/mfhoZ06SlX
Just gonna throw in this argument by a fancy schmancy (as Enten might say) writer for The Atlantic on why it's culturally smart to attack it:
A cultural politics grounded in stigma is shaming is suboptimal in part because, in our times as surely as during the Inquisition and the Salem Witch Trials, it never stops at punishing those believed to have done wrong. Those who are *too forgiving and merciful* are punished too https://t.co/FuprLvHOZw
Framed as a matter of "the way people talk" it is easy to point out how objecting to something is not going to get much traction. But the culture war underway is not defined by any of the combatants. People disagree about what is happening and why. The conditions of the conflict won't suddenly change by including or excluding various rhetoric.
"I was the one, and this administration was the one, that came up with the vaccine" -- Trump (the first FDA-approved coronavirus vaccine was developed by Pfizer last year without any direct help from the federal government) pic.twitter.com/QgMb78GBuM
I actually do like the idea of Trump fans deciding to get vaccinated for the honor of their stable genius dear leader. Maybe they should give them a sticker that says "I just got Trump's vaccine" if that will make them happy? Like they give children lollipops...
That was the bonus. The Supreme Court not having the "courage to overturn an election" out-Nixoned Nixon. Not that 2000 didn't largely set the precedent for exceptional overreach of power for partisan purposes. Frankly we'll be lucky if the current court halfway behaves itself. (and if Biden's allowed to nominate his share of justices)
