"Dorothy Basinger Sanchez, 75, retired here with her husband after working more than 30 years for General Motors. She complained that pundits who live in places like Washington and graduated from schools like Harvard are always on cable, even her beloved Fox News, trying to tell her what she should think. 'They don’t have a clue what we want,' she said. 'I feel like they’re trying to take the common folks’s voice away. I just don’t want my voice taken away. Roy Moore speaks for folks like us.'"
Democrats must find a way to assure people like Dorothy Sanchez that they are listening to and are ultimately on the side of working-class Americans.
Listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd & Allman Brothers isn't enough anymore?
She got a non-union job at GM helping the Rust Belt rust a bit more, shaving down those wages to retire in a low wage/low cost state.
She obviously wants someone from the sticks without a degree to tell her the right way to vote and think. I remember 2 of my classmates, the kool kidz, who literally got a job shoveling shit after graduation. I assume they eventually moved on, but it made me think a lot less about being voted "Most Popular" in a school challenged by let's say very low expectations. And that was one of the *best* schools around.
Yes, these are the "common folk", who'll put on a cowboy hat and thus that makes them a cowboy, when as close as they got was screwing a sheep or a chicken. I mean, it's one thing to buck up a bit of Southern Pride with "South's Gonna Do it Again" - it's another thing to believe it, unless you have a more exacting concept of what exactly "It" is. But I suppose my classmate who went to Stanford would be a traitor to the local cause, one of those "elites" who got away.
Roy Moore speaks for her says it all. Roy Moore wanted to keep segregationist language in the Alabama constitution. He believes that Muslims should not serve in Congress. Moore says that the country is in turmoil because of homosexuals. How, exactly, are Democrats going to get her vote? We have to stop sugarcoating white Conservatives.
Roy Moore voters, like Trump voters, want the country to suffer so that they can exact revenge on people different than the angry, white core they represent.
