Judge Naomi Buchwald handed down her ruling on a motion to dismiss in the case of Organic Seed Growers and Trade Assn et al v. Monsanto after hearing oral argument on January 31st in Federal District Court in Manhattan....
Seed drift and pollen drift from genetically engineered crops often contaminate neighboring fields. If Monsanto's seed technology is found on a farmer's land without contract they can be found liable for patent infringement....
WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday morning appeared divided along party lines, with a conservative majority ready to hold that corporations cannot be held accountable in federal courts for international human rights violations.......
This should scare everyone as TPM reports in body of report:
“In July 2010, we got a written letter from TransCanada, they told us if you don’t accept this within 30 days, we’re going to immediately start eminent domain proceedings against you,” Thompson said. “They didn’t say anything about a permit. I tried to contact the Governor’s office. All I got back was a form letter talking about the pipeline.”
The thrill is gone and I’m all shook up, because the mountain (at least for now) seems high enough to keep me away. I’ve been tossin’ and turnin’, and now, this lady is singing the blues, ready to cry me a river from trying to keep up with the chain of fools twisting our rights away, both nationally and locally. Yeah, I know it’s all in the game, but sometimes, girls just wanna have fun.
Earlier today, Chuck Todd, NBC News’ political director and host of MSNBC’s “Daily Rundown,” rhetorically asked: “Just what has Romney promised Ron Paul.”
Nobody knows if some sort of bargain has been made, but it is interesting that Rep. Ron Paul has never really attacked Mitt Romney, yet he has frequently attacked more conservative candidates at just the moment they were beginning to pose a threat to Romney.
More in report including more links to additional info on this.
Prominent Republicans keep hoping for someone to rescue them from its slate of mediocre candidates. But the party’s biggest problem is the ideological bloodlust of its base.
WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court has added another 30 minutes to upcoming arguments over President Barack Obama's health care overhaul. The sessions now will span six hours over three days in late March.
The breakdown of the three central topics to be heard are in body of report.
TPM Reports that DOJ supports full military benefits for gay couples.
In body of text:
The Obama Justice Department has concluded that legislation banning same-sex couples from receiving military and veterans benefits violates the equal protection component of the Fifth Amendment and will no longer defend the statute in court, Attorney General Eric Holder wrote in a letter to Congressional leaders on Friday.
Full story at link with access to Holder's letter.
CNN announced Thursday that it has canceled an upcoming debate after Mitt Romney, Ron Paul and Rick Santorum all said they would either not attend or were not planning to attend.
Full story thru link. I think it's a real mistake for Santorum to miss this opportunity to 'shine' in his current limelight. It would make Myth even weaker.
"What I want to know is, where are the women?" Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) asked Issa before walking out of the hearing after the first panel. "I look at this panel, and I don't see one single individual representing the tens of millions of women across the country who want and need insurance coverage for basic preventative health care services, including family planning. Where are the women?"
Three Dems (women) walked out, full report info worth the read.
It's not quite a tank. But the quaint town of 23,000 -- scene of just two murders since 1999 -- had just accepted a $285,933 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to purchase a Bearcat, an eight-ton armored personnel vehicle.
Very interesting story, I'm sending copy to our police chief and assembly, 'cuz every small town deserves to have same toy! Ya gotta see the picture.
The Women's Media Center has released its 2012 annual report, which finds -- surprise -- that women are grossly underrepresented in the news media.
Some key findings, per the press release: In 2011, women represented 21.7 percent of guests on Sunday morning talk shows on NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, and Fox News, and comprised only 18.1 percent of all radio news directors.
This is on Politico and you can access the full survey results.
This should be published and referenced over and over!
The recovered funds are up roughly 50 percent from 2009.
"These efforts reflect a strong, ongoing commitment to fiscal accountability and to helping the American people at a time when budgets are tight," Holder said in a statement."
In Monsanto v. Geertson Seed Farms, No. 09-475, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments in a case which could have an enormous effect on the future of the American food industry. This is Monsanto’s third appeal of the case, and if they win a favorable ruling from the high court, a deregulated Monsanto may find itself in position to corner the markets of numerous U.S. crops, and to litigate conventional farmers into oblivion.
Some GOP lawmakers also want to use the “doc fix” as leverage to cut health care reform and Medicare, which House Republicans passed in their December payroll tax package.
