Aside from the personal tragedy, politically this is very very bad for donations to "justice" Dems and sympathy for them. It's why they are making a big deal of it in the news. It's actually just outside of one of the richest neighborhoods in the world, but is a border area with "Spanish Harlem", where a lot of older and divorced and high earner professional singles have apartments, just the kind of upper middle class people who are politically active liberals. Rather than it being a question of whether they are establishment Republicans or Democrats.as it is on the true upper east side.

Yup:
Handguns are the problem. They have always been the main problem. The mass shootings with automatic rifles are an outlier distraction and like other forms of terrorism - and they mostly are terrorism - the population lets themselves be terrorized by them. While handguns do the day in, day out massive damage in homicide, suicide and a unknown massive number of injuries that ruin healthy people's entire lives.

Looks and sounds to me like they overdid it because they were scared shitless by Walker's behavior. If I were them, I would certainly be scared shitless that he was looking to do serious harm.

related to his last tweet above one thing I have seen lately that really drives me nuts (espec. after Uvalde) from "Justice Dems" who are longtime supporters of "Defund and Abolish" is jumping on the "gun control" wagon. Who the fuck do they expect to control who gets to own a gun? And who do they expect to take away guns from illegal owners? Social workers?!!! Gun regulation would require police for chrissake! At least the radical anarchists helping to run outfits like BLM are honest about not wanting to let the state regulate guns!

When i was a kid a friend decided it was a great idea to borrow a car from a dealer lot and take it on a multi state cruise. Caught up with him in PA, where he wrecked the car in a chase, the cops pulled him out of the window w/o opening the door and bashed his head on the ground a few times for their troubles (he also injured his leg, a couple inches shorter for life, but that was the crash). I don't think any of us much faulted the police for the extra "brutality" - he endangered their lives and other bystanders, a lesson of sorts, even tho i didn't much like cops and their constant profiling of longhairs et al. It wasn't the long drawn out of a Rodney King confrontation (tho King was a big guy, this guy was a squirt). Yes, 60 bullets in
Mr. Ski Mask is a lot, but these are also much crazier times - no cop back 50 years ago would just assume an idiot on a long chase would come out shooting - nowadays it's halfway obligatory. And we can quaintly go back and compare it to the Sandra Bland pullover while thinking of the recent street party attacking cop cars. So much to chew over.

Big strike against proponents of gun control is that he purchased the high-powered rife LEGALLY IN ILLINOIS, not out of state. This is a reporter quoting from today's news conference:
So the Illinois system did not work in this case! Any screening that they do was useless. At the same time, obviously the ATF has good records on those guns sold in Illinois. The gun laws in Illinois are not preventative, legal punishment after the fact has to serve as the preventative for future possible perps, that's all you've got here. Unless you want to start giving the government the results of psychiatric tests in order to purchase.
A reminder that we don't do that with cars. We let people have licenses at a relatively young age after training and skill testing. Punishment for criminal use is after the fact. We don't try to prevent use based on psychiatric testing or what they posted on social media.

We pay a huge amount of taxes for professional police, the F.B.I. and the Bureau of A.T.F. HOW ABOUT LISTENING TO WHAT THEY SAY WE SHOULD DO ABOUT THIS PROBLEM? Just a fucking thought. I saw Bloomberg do that, it worked! Just sayin. Here is the reason cops profile young men with black skin as more likely to be criminal:

The number dwarfs the death and shooting of blacks by cops! All such shootings have remained stable for years and amount to like 1,000 a year for all colors of skin! To the point of absurdity. That the focus should be on the outlier examples of police brutality by cops against people with black skin. Really just absurd! Delusionary!
If you want that profiling to be minimized, all you have to do is stop collecting and maintaining statistics that differentiate by color of skin and you've lessened the chance of this profiling and reasoning by cops by a major amount.
But if you don't want that to happen, because other resulting statistics from the collection of data by color of skin might benefit in other ways, well then you're stuck because the reality is that young black men glamorize ownership of guns and police are going to use that.

Personally I see lots of chaos. Those are not properly trained police. Totally unprofessional. Many look like goofballs who don't have a clue. (just one example I see a couple gungho guys just seemingly decide arbitrarily to go down the hall first after a wait, then the guys with the ballistic shields follow -instead of going first?) Totally disorganized. Also seems like no actual command. And they had more than an hour to plan?!
