CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man was found dead inside an abandoned warehouse in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood after a more than 12-hour standoff with a police SWAT team.

Chicago police said they responded to the incident in the 4100 block of West Chicago Avenue just after 11 a.m. Friday.

The man who police believed was armed was seen on top of the building waving what appeared to be guns and a blow torch.

Video from Chopper 7HD showed the scaffolding the man was using to display an anti-Semitic sign, the Chicago flag, the Ukrainian flag, and an upside down American flag which is a universal sign of distress.

Police blocked traffic from a six-block radius around the incident [....]

CHICAGO (WLS) -- At least 60 people have been shot, ten fatally, in shootings across Chicago over the three-day holiday weekend so far, police said.

Five people were shot, two fatally, on the city's South Side on Sunday evening, Chicago police said. The shooting happened in the Roseland neighborhood near West 99th Street and South Princeton Avenue. Two men, a 37-year-old shot in his head and a 33-year-old shot in the neck, died from their injuries. Police said another man, a 27-year-old shot in the buttocks and shoulder, is in critical condition. Two other men, 19 and 25, were listed in fair condition. All gunshot victims were transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center and Roseland and Christ hospitals. During a press conference, Chicago police said a car pulled up alongside the gathering, and someone inside opened fire.

Four men were shot, one fatally, in the Austin neighborhood early Sunday. Just before 3 a.m., five men were fighting inside a garage in the 5400-block of West Crystal Street when one of the men pulled out a gun and opened fire, according to Chicago police. One man, 31, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Loyola University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Another man, whose age was unknown, was shot in the ankle and was taken to the same hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said. The third man, 27, was struck in the leg and arm and drove to Stroger Hospital in fair condition, police said. A fourth man, whose age was unknown, also went to Stroger Hospital and was listed in critical condition with unknown injuries, police said. The gunman fled the scene, police said. No one was in custody.

A man was found shot to over an hour earlier in Woodlawn on the South Side. The man, 48, was found with a gunshot wound to the head in the 6600-block of South Evans Avenue around 1:30 a.m., Chicago police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No arrests have been made.

A teen boy was killed and another was injured in a Saturday afternoon shooting on Chicago's West Side, police said. Police said the shooting happened in the Fifth City neighborhood's 100-block of South Homan Avenue at about 4:45 p.m. Two teens, 14 and 15 years old, were struck by gunfire and transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. The 15-year-old boy, shot in the head, was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. The 14-year-old boy was shot in the body multiple times. There is no one in custody and area detectives are investigating. Police did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.

Hours earlier, a man was fatally shot early Saturday in Auburn Gresham on the South Side. Police responded to a call of a person shot in the 1600-block of West 80th Street when they discovered a 58-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest shortly after midnight, according to Chicago police. Witnesses at the scene told police they heard shots fired and saw the man fall to the ground, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, police said. No one was in custody.

Another man died after he was found Friday night lying on a sidewalk with a gunshot wound in Garfield Park. The 26-year-old was shot in the lower back at about 6:30 p.m. in the 3900-block of West Gladys Avenue, according to Chicago police. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. No one was in custody. No other information was available.

In nonfatal shootings, two 15-year-old boys were shot and wounded Sunday night in West Pullman on the Far South Side. They were standing outside around 8:40 p.m. in the 12800-block of South Normal Avenue when someone fired shots, striking one boy in the groin and the other in the foot, Chicago police said. Both boys were taken to Roseland Hospital, where they were listed in fair condition, according to police. No arrests were reported.

At least five people were shot in Lincoln Park on Saturday morning, according to Chicago police. It happened around 4:40 a.m. in the 1900-block of North Stockton, right outside the Lincoln Park Zoo grounds. Police said the shooting stemmed from some sort of conflict with a group that was drinking in the park. A 17-year-old girl was transported to Northwestern Hospital and is listed in good condition, police said. Four men ages 23, 27, 31, and 44, all self-transported to Northwestern Hospital Chicago police said. They are all listed in critical condition. Police said the victims are not cooperating with the investigation.

Later that day, a man was critically injured in a shooting on a CTA Red Line train near a South Side CTA station, officials said. The shooting happened on a train at the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line Station at about 3:48 p.m., officials said. ABC7 spoke with passengers who were on the train. They said two men got into an altercation, and one pulled out a gun and shot the other. Police said 21-year-old man was shot in the calf. The Chicago Fire Department transported him to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. The alleged shooter was taken into custody, and a weapon was found on the scene, police said. Charges are pending and all passengers were evacuated from the train. The shooting caused CTA delays.

Hours later, an alleged shooter critically injured a man in River North before crashing a vehicle on the Near West Side, Chicago police said. Police said the shooting happened in the 300-block of West Erie Street just after 6:30 p.m. A 27-year-old man was near the sidewalk when someone approached him and opened fire. The victim, shot in the head, self-transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said. The alleged shooter fled in a Jeep, which hit another vehicle near South Ashland Avenue and West Van Buren Street, police said. Officers took the offender into custody, and charges are pending. Area Detectives are investigating. Police did not immediately provide further information about the shooting or crash.

Last weekend, at 31 people were shot, four fatally, in gun violence across Chicago, police said.

But assuming it's valid, just as zip codes affect business, they can affect people's opinions of issues as *1* of several influences. (Certain Dems may discount crime as a cost of less police harassment - go figger, they may not notice as much (due to where they live/NIMBy vs brought to you on TV/social media), they may focus more on other issues. Higher education can shape your bubble quite differently, plus yes, media focuses our attention - so for Dems with time who don't live in high crime areas, they get the George Floyd version, while whites in the suburbs get the Fog visigoths at the gates version. People in San Francisco get the junkie on my front doorstep version (though arguably less shooting, more break-ins), and so on. On some social media sites theyre hyperfocused on the high recent waves of shootings. Pick your prism.

A fourth person has been found dead from a mass shooting at a Fourth of July block party in northern Louisiana, a police and a Shreveport city official said Wednesday – a shooting that also left seven others injured.

At least 11 people were shot at the block party in Shreveport around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, authorities have said.

Police initially said three people were killed but later announced a fourth was found dead Wednesday. That person’s body was discovered in an area with tall grass and dense vegetation, Shreveport Councilwoman Tabatha Taylor said.

Officials are hoping to get a drone in the air to continue searching for other possible victims, Taylor said.

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Morad Aziz, 22; Syncere Brown, 17; Jarike J. Dorsey, 19; and Demorie Williams, 24.

“Last night was a horrible night here in Shreveport,” Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith told reporters Wednesday.

Among the seven people who were shot and survived, one was in critical condition and six suffered non-life-threatening wounds, according to Shreveport police spokesperson Sgt. Angie Willhite.

“It’s believed that multiple males engaged in an exchange of gunfire,” Smith said.

It’s not clear what led up to the gunfire, which shattered a “family and community event” that had safely taken place for more than a decade, Taylor said.

No suspects have been arrested.

Johnnie Winn, who was at the block party, told CNN affiliate KSLA that two of his friends were killed in the shooting. He’s attended the annual party several times and many of the partygoers have lived in the area for decades, he told KSLA.

Shortly before gunfire erupted, Winn “got a weird vibe” when he saw a few younger men start to follow other people, he told KSLA. Moments later, he saw roughly 10 to 15 people fighting before shots were fired and people started running, he said.

The scene was chaos, Winn said. He hid under a truck with three people he didn’t know, he told KSLA.

“We didn’t know each other, but we protected each other,” he told the station.

It was difficult for first responders to get to the victims due to the number of vehicles at the gathering, police told KSLA.

“Getting here and getting EMS here was a difficult thing. A lot of us had to park our cars and take off running because there were so many cars on the side of the street,” Shreveport police Lt. Van Wray told KSLA.

With a potentially large number of witnesses, Taylor implored anyone with information to call police, even anonymously.

“I am looking for justice for these families,” the councilwoman said, adding that the assailants “have traumatized us in a way that is unfathomable.” [....]

[....] “People feel like [the shooting] could have been prevented... We just don’t know,” said Third District Councilwoman Melissa Robinson. She had not heard of any data that would suggest the call’s location that night, or any 911 call’s location, may have an impact on police response time.

Robinson believes this is an issue, in part, due to the size of Kansas City. “Because Kansas City is so large in terms of landmass, I don’t think we’ve ever gotten up to a level of officers able to meet the demand,” Robinson said.

Based off conversations at Board of Police Commissioners’ meetings, the staffing shortage is getting worse, she said.

Robinson contended the issue must be addressed by ensuring the department is adequately resourced and funds dedicated to employing officers are appropriately used. She added that conversations around the council “taking money away from police” negatively impacted these efforts.

The strained relationship between police officers and the communities they protect, specifically those experiencing high levels of gun violence, such as Kansas City’s East Side, is also a large part of the issue, she said. “Residents have to be able to depend on officers,” she said, “... including for a reasonable amount of response time when they call 911.”

Garcia left a long trail of online posts describing his white supremacist and misogynistic views. He described mass shootings as sport and posted photos showing his large Nazi tattoos and a favorite passage in the “Hunger Games” books marked with a swastika drawn in green highlighter.

He was Latino, and he posted one cartoon image showing a Latino child at a fork in a road, with one direction labeled “act black” and the other, “become a white supremacist.”

“I think I’ll take my chances with the white supremacist,” he wrote.

I lived two blocks away when I first moved to NYC. In 84, the crime rate was high but that was the fashionable upper west side (big movie theater, post office, Barnes & Noble, Tower Video/Records right there. Lincoln Center and ABC TV studios very close by; at midnight the street would still be very crowded and including lots of performers of all kinds Actually I remember Tower closing at midnight, everbody trying to make video returns)

A 56-year-old woman was walking with her husband near Broadway and West 69th Street just after midnight, when a man punched her in the face. The victim’s husband began chasing the assailant while yelling for help.

Events: Heavy gunfire is occuring around the area of the U.S. Embassy and residential compounds adjacent to the Trutier area of Tabarre. All Embassy personnel have been instructed to remain indoors and shelter-in-place until further notice. All others should avoid the area.

Actions to take:

Avoid the area;

Avoid demonstrations and any large gatherings of people;

Do not attempt to drive through roadblocks; and

If you encounter a roadblock, turn around and get to a safe area.
