Important to note the above is concerns records of homicides by all methods rather than number of shootings by guns.
My own anecdotals, paying strong attention to local news reports for months, is that a large number of shootings is occurring where there are many people shot but only a few die. (Probably due to inexperience handling recently acquired firearms!
So I suspect the increase in gun violence exceeds the increased homicide rate by a large magnitude. (And our health care system is no doubt seeing the results, like an epidemic.)

Nothing bout no reforming policing mentioned on the agenda. Though the article does mention Adams' campaign murmurs on topic, it makes more of Adams assertion that he basically duplicated Biden's winning combination of voter demographics.

I saw this reported as it happened on the Spot News tweeting of the police radio, when they didn't know who it was that was shot. Was going to post it, it was so odd, in a Ripley's-believe-it-or-not-way, just didn't get around to it. Commenters piped right up along the lines of "wtf, that's right in front of the jail!"
If he had been executed by the state instead, he would have a least had a last meal.

Only a few years ago we were the safest city in the world. Shops stood closed and unprotected and untouched through the start of the pandemic. Until that is, fucking entitled brats had to have BLM protests over Minneapolis' problems and give the idea to criminal minds that they could gang up and come and loot Manhattan at night, just like the protesters graffitti'd and broke windows in the daytime without pushback from a depleted police force.

East Harlem has all of a sudden become a little more threatening than West Side Story. Thanks for pointing this out, I probably would have missed it. It's not really the suburbs, it's worse in a way, "the east side" it's always been the elite liberal hipster side of town, on the lakefront, extending from the downtown area, the area that tourists see and are impressed with, with the art museum, and university, etc., including old brewer's mansions inhabited by wealthy liberals.and nice older homes, where working class and other "normal" people do not venture because it's like: snobs, students, hip restaurants and bars, musicians and strange Jewish intellectual people
I ended up seeing the next story on WTMJ, the local NBC news and it's a strange mysterious one about shootout in RACINE county at a gas station and involved with sheriffs, a story which somehow extends to the next county too, could be a developing, sounds like they are trying to cover things up

uh oh, this is really really bad, attempted armed robbery at Dior at 5th & 57th St. NYC (with driveby capability) where all the international tourists go and it's on YouTube now. I worked security during these riots. It was pure hell. Several black teenagers in a car pointed fingers, while using their thumbs as triggers, at me, staff had confrontations with one another where I had to escort them out, and more than a few racial incidents. Throw that on with the Covid stuff and it was all just awful.

Somehow Kapaernick's "Take a Knee" became a rallying call for pro-police and support the flag & troops, again ignoring Eric Garner, Breanna Taylor, Sandra Bland, Freddie Gray.
I have trouble with some of the names included in other lists - a 16-year-old wielding a knife isn't a victim; a juvie jumping a neighborhood watch guy isn't a victim. But others are for sure. And i found it repulsive to have a humane concern about treating humans with minimal respect pushed below the "need" to have profitable uncontroversial sports weekends, and mixed with the unrelated pseudo-patriotism of supporting our troops in meandering counterproductive foreign engagements where too many die or are wounded.
So yes, "defund the police" is unreasonable, but the new mayor of New York is talking both dealing with crime/shootings *AND* treating the general public including blacks with a needed amount of respect & human rights - obviously subject to emergencies like mass shootings where certain rights may be suspended. But until the left became unrealistic, the rest refused to budge - just another black death, ho-hum. And yes, it's frustrating that many of these activists don't spend enough energy on the current shootings etc al.

^ Do note: NYC prosecutors are NOT RACIST on gun charges!!! Just the opposite! They actually give minority skin colors a 10% mulligan, as he says 85% of those arraigned on gun charges are Black or Hispanic. But so are more than 95% of shooting and murder victims and offenders.
