It's not true that it's only a rise in homicide across the board. Chicago has seen an incredible rise in robberies, too. Every locality is different, the FBI report summary is national overall.
For example, just from reading the news and commentary from the San Francisco bay I would be surprised to learn that robberies and burglaries are NOT way up.

Oddball mix of crime reports I found interesting:
^ Cops hear that on the radio! How would that affect you if you were a cop and you heard it? The thread of replies is interesting, some funny but also including anecdotes of similar experiences.
Means something that the Commissioner tweeted about this incident rather that crowing about cops catching a murderer. He clearly made it a hands on priority: thanks to everyone involved for their diligent work during this investigation.

What kind of "Black Lives Matter" group isn't out there protesting this? How absurd does it have to get to stop pretending that this is not happening often among young black men? It's crickets except for sports fans, who tend to be more conservative people. If there is such a thing as a black community, I got news: there needs to be a new and different safety "lecture" given by parents and guardians. (In Utah yet!)

30-40 yrs ago we blamed black deaths on hanging around the wrong crowds, bunch of bad apples. Now it's just the uncaring and indifferent universe, taking gangbangers, little kids, old people and other standers-by equally, even the occasional privileged why pipple. No blame, just another senseless death, eh? Progress - an end to racism as we knew it!

The above was in the Inwood neighborhood, which is above Harlem and quite gentrified in some areas. The ghost gun point is important as police will not be able to do the same thing as they did in the Bloomberg era tracking illegal guns to their source.

glad to see this comparison that I have used before
I think it is more apt than many realize. I'm actually of the opinion, learned from much personal experience. that accessing medicine without extreme care and research is very very dangerous. The malpractice that makes it to court is a tiny percentage of actual malpractice, and many doctors with good intent also cause a lot of serious harm.
Certainly having Medicaid insurance, or no insurance, increases the risk of lousy medical care a great deal; patients are basically limited to the worst providers who will accept extremely low reimbursement. Yes, there are a few angel doctors who accept such patients but they are very rare and the wait time for appts. is very long (it is common for such doctors to see the "poor" one day out of their weekly schedule.)

What was that about "missing white girl" syndrome? Not at Fox News. This story is about Afro-American girl next door and they've been playing it up big. And note The FBI and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement had been involved in a search that spanned three counties for the missing college student who disappeared a week ago.

The whole operation is sort of being wrongly framed as an old time anti-drug crackdown when in reality it was anti-black market where cash is king. A lot of legal retail vendors were buying from them because the price was lower. The problem is: not a legal entity, not following regulation, and clearly, from the bags of cash evidence, not paying taxes either.
The outlaw ethos of the boomer counterculture is finally really coming home to roost in so many ways.It took a real long time for many to see the inherent contradiction of being against your government legally drafting young men for a war in Vietnam, to being against government. SDS types knew and some saw it and went whole hog Weatherman consistent with their principles taken to their logical conclusions.
What happened to get people to stop confronting the cognitive dissonance of that "movement"? The end of the draft! Very smart move on the part of Congress. The libertarian conundrum basically put on the back burner until many became homeowners and want to get away with paying less taxes than people who don't own homes (capitalism, basically).....

In places like Texas especially it's just loony to think that any kind of gun control would help much at all, there's just too many guns out there, and no easy way to reduce that volume, too late for that! Lots of teen violence going on in the NYC the last few days, but this is my favorite for the irony. @ FANNIE LOU HAMER 'FREEDOM' High School, with a big BLACK LIVES MATTER MURAL painted across the front facade (believe it or not,) they are going to be getting much more NYPD support, they feel THEY NEED MORE COPS, NOT LESS, cause black lives don't appear to matter to young gang-member students, they'll attempt to take a black life over an argument over a cell phone charger (the latter detail on the argument later seen reported on live TV, also that the victim was stabbed 3 times)
