Scots' push for Britain breakup begins in earnest

Seeking to tap into a cocktail of historical rivalry, opposing political tastes, and a perception that the British parliament in London does not nurture Scotland's national interests, the "Yes Scotland" campaign says it wants to win a referendum on independence in 2014 and for the country to become fully independent by 2016.

SCOTLAND'S First Minister, Alex Salmond, predicted 1 million Scots will be signed to join a popular mass movement that will eventually win independence for Scotland, as he launched a campaign to leave Britain.

He was the first to sign the new yes declaration, an open-ended pledge to make Scotland a ''greener, fairer and more prosperous'' independent nation, which won backing from actors such as Brian Cox and Alan Cumming, and left-of-centre political figures such as the Scottish Green leader, Patrick Harvie.

Opinion polls show that around 40 percent of Scottish people are sympathetic to independence, with around 10 percent undecided and the remaining 50 percent opposed. South of the border in England, polls show people are largely apathetic.

Events: Heavy gunfire is occuring around the area of the U.S. Embassy and residential compounds adjacent to the Trutier area of Tabarre. All Embassy personnel have been instructed to remain indoors and shelter-in-place until further notice. All others should avoid the area.

Actions to take:

Avoid the area;

Avoid demonstrations and any large gatherings of people;

Do not attempt to drive through roadblocks; and

If you encounter a roadblock, turn around and get to a safe area.
