PATTON OSWALT LOSES THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE

    Patton Oswalt by Gage Skidmore.jpg

I like this guy. He is about 6 to 8 years older than my kids and I began seeing his gigs on cable over the last 15 years.

It is hard to gage the issue concerning time in these days. I mean, you might pick up something on cable that is fifteen years old and not even know it is a decade and a half ago.

Louis CK has fun discussing his new family. Louis CK had his life and his riffs change forever.

Comics change, if they are worth a damn.

    And Patton Oswalt changed, forever.

I recall a gig where he discussed how happy he was that he found the love of his life! (2005?)
Years later, much of his discussion revolved around his little baby girl.

One speech had to do with his little girl when he took her to a cafe.

So he gets to the Starbucks and the two sit a table and share a coffee and whatever was appropriate for a 4 year old.

And this Black man, an old man who was bald with a whitish beard sat down next to them.
    Precious said:
    LOOK DADDY, A MONKEY!

    hahahahahahah

Daddy did not know what to do.

So he picked up Precious and ran for the door and out to the car.
    hahahhahaha

Later on, the two (like my son and his Precious might do) enjoyed A disney flick.
And the favorite character of Precious showed up.  That is the bald monkey with a whitish beard.

    hahahhaha
I dunno, this just got to me, deep deep deep into my heart.

Well, recently Patton lost his truest Precious, the love of his life; his wife from some unknown cause--as of yet.

(I edit this because of Matt's comment (infra). For some reason cancer had been on my mind.)

And at the age of 46, I do not know how my favorite comic might handle this.

And this sudden death of his beloved must have sent Mr. Oswalt into a spin.

This man had fame and fortune and a fantastic family life.

He has been a producer and a director and an actor in film and TV.

He has been at the top of his game as a stand-up of course.

He has battled with depression for decades.

    How will he handle this?

He lost the love of his life and yet, his primary purpose in life is to take care of his little Precious.
I know, thousands and hundreds of thousands of folks lose their loved ones every goddamn year through war and mayhem and disease and famine....

But I really feel for Patton.

I told my daughter over the phone the other day that THESE ARE THE DAYS.

I told her to remember these days when she and her hubby and her brother and her three nieces were safe and healthy.

All the adults are employed and the mortgages are up to date and everyone is well fed and well clothed and there are no creditors beating down their doors.

    Life is not always thus.

Sometimes little things compel us to catastrophe.

But the bigger things, might send us into Hades.

    That is all I got.

Except I really, really feel bad for Patton and I hope he is doing better and better as the years go on and he cares for his little Precious, the Precious his lovely wife left to him.

Oh there was one song that got to me as I thought about all of this.

And it is while I watch Louis CK on Charlie Rose tonight.

And I thought about this song in connection with Patton's loss

Tuesday is Gone.  You should like this one. We all learn to move on.

I am on my way to bed I am tired tonight.  Made egg rolls and ended up with 30 of them.  They are work but fun to do and not expensive to make. I am all stiff from planting my pineapple garden.  I had 7 plants from the tops of pineapples.  I have been eating fresh pineapple because it has a natural antibiotic that has been helpful with UTI's.

A little Skynyrd aint half bad!

He is easily the best stand-up I've ever seen live and his albums are all great, too.  I don't know how he will handle this.  I expect his devotion to his daughter will pull him through. But, yeah, by the nature of his art you feel like you know him and you worry, right?

Yeah, virtual reality fools us all I guess.

Hell, over a century ago millions felt they knew Twain.

And he never even made it to the radio!

I think we need more Skynyrd in here.

I do not recall hearing this song.

I hit on it twice today, already.

    Haunting it seems.

    Life is haunting, it seems.

At this day and age everything seems to be a cliche.

    Thank you.

Also Dick, if you're in a mood for some JT, I found this duet he did with Carole King almost unbearably good.

Just listen to that man's voice, from 2:30-4:00. He's 62 years old there. Not bad.

    Beautiful!

    Talk about old flames!

Thanks for this, DD.  I am saddened to think about his loss.

    How our hearts will ache
    when tragedies descend on
    folks we think we know,

    I too like Oswalt.
He is a funny man who
    seems both bright and kind.

    I'm without armor
    and my empathy is strong
    my heart always aches.

You know, this guy can relate his experience in the supermart searching for a piece of ham in his sweats.

    And I am interested?

    And I laugh.

    Damn Dick... I'm crying now.

If it wasn't for this man my loving wife and I wouldn't have crossed paths 48 years ago. I grabbed her right out from under his nose and he and I remained tight life long friends to his dying day.

We so truly, truly miss him...

He sings this to all of us.

    • It's from the film Fast Getaway (1991)

Love can be the damnedest thing.

Just a heads-up, his wife did not die of cancer. She had no known medical problems but still died suddenly in her sleep.

    Thanks for the correction.

    I checked the links.

Poor Patton apparently never had a heads up on this tragedy.

But at least his wife did not suffer some long and hurtful period prior to her death.

Oh I forgot to add Matt, I edited the post.

    Again, thank you.

I do not know what I was thinking at the time but I was reading a bunch of blogs about breast cancer/

I used to post this song up in its original video. Here's an Oswalt version. From a friend up in Colorado.

Q, all this guy needs is a couch and a CD player. hahahahahahah

Another great one, Richard.  You caught it perfectly. I'm struck by the many caring posts here on Dagblog lately.  This is an amazing community.

Ramona, this is nice. This is a nice place.

And that fact keeps me at this place.

I feel sometimes that I am at Missy's old place at the old blog.

Everyone is welcome and nobody is eschewed. hahahah

And no one asks me for money. hahahaha

    Which I do not have.

Thank you for reading my stuff!

    Really.

Lol.  You're a big part of what makes Dagblog Dag.  Thank you.

Ssssshhhhhhh.... he still thinks it's "Dayblog". Can't see worth shit.

    Lol.

But, hey, did you get that big hug I sent you?

OH, that was supposed to be a bear *hug* ??? In any case, thanks, it arrived.

Hmmm, that didn't turn out so well...

    Hey Dick;

    Lend me $20 bucks, bud?

Q, you just got to me at the perfect time.

Tubman just came off my hot presses even before issue; and what is the issue? But I have the issue.

Just give me your credit card number and DOB and DL and we shall take care of this in an inordinate period of time!

Hmmm, that could be tough - his birth certificate just has an X on it, and anyone from his neck of the woods lucky enough to have a license had it taken away anyway. But he can probably dig up someone's credit card. Visa or Mastercard?

Well I forgot to get his mama's maiden name as it were as well as the name of his favorite puppy.

But this is all a work in progress?

And, anyway, I have all these Tubmans just sitting on the living room floor drying out so to speak.

Tubman had no problems with alcohol as it were.

    But I digress!

    Folders full of Tubmans?

Just noticed I had "Oswald" in the headline.  Fixed it.

This blog is dead of course.

But there is this KFC riff that just kills me:

It will be about ten years before I can show this to my granddaughter, as long as Daddy aint around.

    hahahahah

Just to add one more note of sweetness to this blog ... This appeared today on the Huffington Post:

On Sunday, Oswalt tweeted something his daughter said:  "When your mom dies you're the best memory of her. Everything you do is a memory of her." -- Alice Oswalt, 7

    My God that is delightful.

Oh my kids are so lucky right now and so are my grandkids.

Not members of the 1 percent or even 10 percent. But they get by.

I do not surmise that they are complacent!

    Our sins include:

O God if I only had more. hahahaha

It looks to me, reading this, that Patton knows exactly where his duties lie.

My son told me yesterday of this new Patton Oswalt show on Netflix

It is wonderful and just prior to the tragedy.

Here it is, as long as you have Netflix

    https://www.netflix.com/watch/80082862?trackId=13752289&tctx=0%2C0%2Cc8520c7229cc475d585fa889997f9327c4ce25af%3A94627e8794a144444480f348adbf07afa13ec75b

I think it is good anyway. So did my son.
