The complaints about the EU are that 1) Brussels has too much control, or 2) Brussels leaders aren't directly elected.

Yet Cromwell was a disaster for Ireland, Milosevic a disaster for Yugoslavia, Stalin/Kruschev a disaster for Eastern Europe, Hitler/Mussolini/Franco a disaster for all of Europe...

Leaders such as Berlusconi, Meciar, Orban who could have been disasters have been limited in reach.

The European Union is most likely the most progressive multinational experiment in the history of mankind.

Yet the UK is rushing madly to achieve a last minute deadline to leave with or without a deal, even as they can see the madness that Trump, Putin, Erdogan, Assad, Mohammed bin Salman, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong-Un are offering.

Goddamn Romans, always find a way to sit on the fence with some pompous turn of the phrase, and then they send in their Centurions and wipe everything up anyway.

(So there's a blog site catering to Roman Senate types and philosophers debating events of the world? Vulgate welcome?)

Some legislators only wish to vengeance against a particular enemy. Others only look out for themselves. They devote very little time on the consideration of any public issue. They think that no harm will come from their neglect. They act as if it is always the business of somebody else to look after this or that. When this selfish notion is entertained by all, the commonwealth slowly begins to decay.
