NY1 is THE main local tv news weather & traffic channel on all the cable TV systems for all 5 boroughs (comes with all basic packages; actual broadcast TV never worked much for most of NYC) He was definitely talking to his constituents there, not a national audience, the news anchors are all long well-known celebrities
Interview was 9 mins live at noon, video is here
Adams defends policing policies in wake of subway mass shooting arrest

TOUGH TALK, Mayor & anchors both! I'd recommend watching at least part to hear the tone, it's angry. Not just about terrorism, but gets into it a little and absolutely touting that they've got to beef up the ATF-Feds to get guns out of the city.
But it was more about the 12 shootings last night stressing the VICTIMS being black, that's the "black lives matter" part, why don't all those people upset about Geo. Floyd care about these black lives, where are they? About a lot of the victims not just being black but being babies. And many of the perps are black babies, too. He wants to know where the protesters are, how come they're busy tweeting against cops and not instead tweeting criminal acts (as in: if you see something, say something) and making sure their kids are at home doing their homework, not on the street with a gun. The "social work" part comes in with stuff like when he was a kid, they'd say on tv: "it's 10 pm, do you know where your children are?" He does mention foster kids are a particular problem with crime and it needs work...was all in his plan...
(me, I suspect foster "parenting" minority teens is a big income producer in poor urban areas, too often by people who like the money but either don't care that much or don't know that much about raising responsible young men. I.E. a lot of kids about to go bad are being placed with people who didn't have good parents either. They turn to gangs or similar to get a sense of family. I don't know what you do about that. I have a cousin who did basic social work with juvies, she is a great gal, hip, very open to all with a great laugh and grew up an only child with adoring gentle parents, father a truck driver, mom a stay-at-home (my aunt & uncle). She didn't get very far with most of them, they roll their eyes at her, think they can pull one over, she knew what they were doing but how to do anything about it? You have to be tough and mean with them, alpha, seems the only way? In any case, letting them roam the streets at night and shrugging as long as the welfare money for them keeps rolling in, that's not the way. "Scared Straight" type programs seem to work best, but now we don't have a lot of ex-cons who rue their experience, instead we got a lot of them being let out early to be criminals again. A short stint in prison is like a badge of honor and manhood, rap lyrics say so...)

My lede wrt BLM criticism of Adams, like he didn't cure all shootings yet and they have a more enlightened social way, which is great eventually if ppl have time and it works, but for now there's an epidemic of violence, criticism is largely a distraction - sure, everyone can do better... Kind of like the peaceniks preaching "talk to Putin, war is wrong" as if there's a real payoff for talking with a self-absorbed brutal nationalist.

here's an example of how their 'abolish' ideal is supposed to work out, after a protester threatens a driver with a gun, a women with a bullhorn and a walking stick screams "hey don't do that, do not do that!"
and
here's another possibility, where you have armed militias of choice parading around, keeping the "peace":
fyi - those are from this going on:

"black man w fucking hand on taser shot in back of head while rolling around with lone policeman waiting for backup"
Can we recognize how far we are from Sandra Bland's stop where she was fully cooperative, not running and grabbing a cop's taser and not letting go over a minute if cop requesting him to "stop" and "quit resisting"?
Even with the Atlanta Wendy's guy, he grabbed the taser and was running away. The cop in this case was still in extreme danger. "Back of the head while facedown" is quite the revisionist take on this.

LITERALLY BUCKETS OF BLACK BLOOD SPILLED ALLOVER THE U.S. ON EASTER WEEKEND,
a rather important holiday in Afro-American culture,
and cops didn't spill any of it, but a lot of Black people did.
"Black Lives Matter" needs to change it's name, because it's clear they don't really care about Black lives, they care about other, unrelated things like anarchy theory and colonialism and stuff, same as lots of elite white educated Woke.
