But whaddabout defunding police and letting social workers handle it?
Which side are you on? Rule of law or?

videos of the start:
People had to make these banners ahead of time - but in a similar situation, that easily could be explained as for a legitimate rally:

a reminder that many elites favored the election of Lula and it was the vote of elites that helped put him over the top; here's my election thread:

you can call Bolsanaro a fascist and it isn't going to affect the reality that, in this democracy, the majority of the lower classes prefer him to Lula socialism or your elite variety of socialism

Nothing more elite than Mar-a-Lago
Once again we knew this was coming - why could nothing (or not enough) be done?

re: Nothing more elite than Mar-a-Lago TOTALLY DISAGREE! It's Queens baroque taste, totally tacky Palm Beach, totally anti-Manhattan taste. As is Trump Tower, it's brassy decor and it's Taco bowls, as is Taj Mahal casinos etc. No one *elite* would be caught dead as a member of Mar-a-Lago before he was president. He was famous for bashing all the Wall St. *elites* in the 80's and the working class adored him, including lots of little boys, bought his book in droves. He's like Tony Soprano without the introspection, street smarts wins every time. Can fix a skating rink that idjit elites can't, and do it in a NY minute. Can get the women rated 10+ over the elites. Can make educated elites and celebrities quake in their boots by saying "you're fired" on tv..Mar-a-Lago and Trump steaks and wine is what the fans would buy if the elites got their boot off the necks of the people.
I can't believe you said that! His whole brand has always been about "fuck the elites". IF YOU DONT GET THAT, YOU DON'T GET ANYTHING ABOUT CURRENT POPULISM!

Come on, it's yokel chic. Elite anti-elites. What is MAGA but an exclusive club of people who "get it". They make a pilgrimage to Mar-a-Lago like going to Mecca, spend those outrageous prices for tackiness, but then you belong. "The few, the proud, the anti-deep state" or whatever. Hand signals, secret shakes, hats, pins, whatev. The True Patriots. Yes, the irony of forming an elitist anti-elites structure shouldn't be ignored. But would it have worked if the leader wasn't a "successful billionaire businessman"? He knows - he has all the answers - he radiates brilliance - everything he touches succeeds. And he's saving us from the coastal libs, huzzah, hu-ya (elite military greeing from Courage Under Fire)

Article only mentions 2 people, Steve Bannon and Ali Alexander:
I don't buy their framing! Of course they copied Jan. 6, that's a no brainer. But it's amazingly arrogant and imperialistic to boot to say Trumpies caused this!!! (Again, which is it? Is Trump a brilliant genius conspirator or a miserable stupid narcissist?) Did Bannon plot like the Yellow Jacket movement in France, too, with Putin's help? It's a chicken-or-egg thing. Bannon nor Trump nor Bolsanaro aren't causing it, they are taking advantage of what is really there. Wake up, stop conspiracizing and confront reality. Or you can keep doing the same thing that Qanon wingers are - hunting for bogeymen who control what happens.
I'm with him:
Again, to think of Brazilians as childish tools of American instigators is insulting, truly racist and imperialist, the real thing.

nice example of where conspiracizing can take you

O.I.C, Bree's been an advocate for abolishing police and prisons, but only because those in the U.S go too slow fooling around with things like civil rights?

Making a public appearance (shopping but not shopping?) to pretend he's not involved with the Brasilia attack that he likely organized? Who else in Florida is with him?

they're handling it
they're not children, they're just like us; let's try to remember not to get all imperialistic about it, as if Bannon and Trump are great puppet masters instead of grifters off of movements in the wind

That underrates them. Trump consolidated various disorganized ineffective movements. Sure, he didn't create them from scratch, but they'd still be holding survivalist BBQs in the heartland without him. Sure, underlings/seconds like Roger Stone and Bannon and Ginny Thomas carry above their weight in bringing portions together, but look at how Trump wiped out the Republican field in the 2016 debates - that was largely solo. The man has talent. Similarly Bolsonaro, except i don't know the weight of the military and other currents down there, and Trump hasn't been able to throw his main opponent in jail (not for lack of trying).
Even now Trump holds a huge chunk of news attention with whatever he does, even as his organization pull is a fraction of 2019.
