The Bishop and the Butterfly: Murder, Politics, and the End of the Jazz Age

    People Get Ready

Not long before Super Tuesday, I made the following entry in blog at my.barackobama.com. I thought some of you, like me, could use some uplifting perspective.

There's a train about to leave the station, and it's name is the Obama Express. Here's a little encouragement for you all, a golden oldie that fits our new movement like no other. So grab the CD, pop in the tape or set down the needle. Ladies and gentlemen, here's a YouTube video and these are the lyrics to "People Get Ready," by Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions. Enjoy.

People get ready, there's a train a comin'
You don't need no baggage, you just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'
You don't need no ticket, you just thank the Lord

So people get ready for the train to Jordan
Picking up passengers from coast to coast
Faith is the key, open the doors and board them
There's hope for all among those loved the most

There ain't no room for the hopeless sinner
Who would hurt all mankind just to save his own soul
Have pity on those whose chances grow thinner
There ain't no hiding place from the Kingdom's throne
