A close friend, (indeed, a friend of my youth), otherwise not to be taken for an utter *simpleton, was recently heard forcefully to maintain that Obama’s “spread the wealth” progressive taxation was at heart a redistributive first cousin of Socialism.
He dismissed my proffer that we might reasonably, as a society, decide to distribute unequally the burdens of running vital services; worse, he seemed to confuse the progressivity of the tax system with some sort of pernicious and pervasive power over the lives of the taxed.
So in support of my admonition to him, (and to all you other flat taxers out there of whatever ideological stripe) to shut the fuck up, here is your flat tax:
Sixty percent. The standard deduction is $100,000, $50,000 per dependant.
Now, are you happy?
