In an Op-ed piece by Eugene Robinson, he writes about how delusional the GOP is and points out that their only plan going forward is "whistling past the graveyard." It is a good read.
This was published in January's issue of Scientific America this year. It covers and explains atmospheric rivers. This was first noticed and studied in 1998. One caused the great flood of 1861 in California and this happens out there about every 200 years. Currently we have an atmospheric river flowing up the East Coast from the Equator dumping rain for the next few days. I hope you take time to read this article in pdf format. It is good information to know and understand about our changing weather.
Frederica Wilson (D-FL) from Miami has made a hat her trade mark. Take a look at the hats she likes to wear. She is one of the more colorful House Rep. that Florida has to offer. She is well liked.
This was just posted on her site an hour ago. I am speechless. Michele my Bell is hanging up her gloves. This was released on her site and placed on you tube. The comments on you tube was shut down right away.
A bridge collapsed over Skagit River tonight near Mount Vernon. This was on Interstate 5 both north bound and south bound, four lanes total. No word yet on how many cars went into the water. This is so sad. How many of these will we have to have before we start financing infrastructure? Most of our bridges are in sad shape.

I ran across this lecture by Jennifer Francis at the Climate Change Summit from last fall. She is a professor at Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences Rutgers University. She presents a very easy to understand talk and well worth the 40 minutes it takes to watch. I am posting this because of the current extreme weather we are seeing in the Midwest. The media is going to bring up climate change and the politicains are going to cling to their misinformation that it is not caused by humans. Prof.
"Breaking Amish" TLC hit series from last fall season on Sunday night has started shooting the second season at Pinecraft, a community in Sarasota, Florida. I haven't seen the series because I don't have cable but according to Wikipedia it is about five young adults trying out a new life, to see if they want to remain in their upbringing. Because the series had high ratings and good revie
Johnathan Chait in his New York Magazine piece today, does an excellent job of explaining how Paul Ryan is wrong. The facts spell out the problem with his budget and idiology. He writes about Yuval Levin, who is Ryan's adviser, and his paper "Beyond the Welfare State" that came out when the GOP took over the house. He points all the flaws in it and how austerity has failed. It is a good read and easy to understand. Here is the link to Levin's essay. http://www.nationalaffairs.com/publications/detail
Yesterday, May 8, 2013, Sen. Warren-D introduced her first bill in the Senate for students loans at the same rate at the Fed Window that banks get. 0.75%. I will let her explain the bill in her own words.
Last Friday the Hamilton Project at the Brookings Institute published their final working paper by Micheal Greenstone and Adam Looney. The research shows through charts and grafts, that we would have 2.2 more million jobs in the economy if we followed the same policies that we had during the last 5 recessions. The authors compare this recovery rate to past down turns and recoveries. They place the blame squarely on the reduction of public employees in order to reduce debt. Also the authors point out that we fall short of 10 million jobs right now in this economy.

Why a bad idea won over the west. By Mark Blyth An excellent but rather long article that explains the failures of austerity. Well worth the time to read it. Easy to understand.
I like to treat myself a short 15 min. ride to Alma Sue's Quilt shop from my house a couple of times a year. It is a joy to walk into her new shop and watch the Amish and Menonnites quilt. They quilt from frames hung from the ceiling and speak a form a German that is known a Pa.
Residents in Collier county received a letter requesting information in case something goes wrong, when they start test wells, and there has to be an evacuation. This is a good read because no one had any idea that fracking was allowed in Florida. The shale in this area is very soft in the Collier oil field. The company is looking for gas and is going to do some tests to look for natural gas. This comes on the heals of the Florida Legislature passing a bill this week to allow companies to list the chemicals they use in fracking in a registry.
This is good news for people who have to file for unemployment benefits in Florida. Rick Scott signed into law a bill that would make everyone who was applying for unemployment benefits to pass a written test on line to be eligible. The Federal Court ruled against it because it was discriminatory. The whole system is Florida is broken because it is difficult to sign up for it. The computer system and phone system is usually overloaded or down. I watched my son struggle with it for months trying to file on line during the window set for him. He would get kicked off before he was finish

This is an update of a story that I have been following closely. 40% of the 82 people that have confirmed cases has not had any direct contact with birds. They still not sure if it is being spread from human to human contact.
This is a very interesting read about the dynamics of family culture in secular muslem Chechnya. It also gives a peek into former Soviet Union politics and the transition after it's fall for the people in the Chechnya region. The author gives a possible reason why the brothers did the bombing.
